ParticipantOops! :p I had vvill on the list but forgot to acknowledge. Thanks, Steve.

ParticipantIt was closed this (Monday) morning too. I followed the detour signs and found it easy to ride down the switchback with a little Flintstoning around the tight corners. I’m totally uncoordinated though. Someone in front of me rode down it with no problem.

ParticipantSeat height/position and cleat placement are big factors. I developed that problem once and solved it with a good fitting. No problems since.

ParticipantIf you announce a prize, that means you’re volunteering to make the award(s), right??
Arlingtonrider
ParticipantIf I’ve posted a “like,” it means that I have you on the list for rsvp purposes and BAFS nametags, and that I like that you’re joining us!
Arlingtonrider
ParticipantYou have it right! Thanks for posting!

ParticipantTo be honest, I’ll probably just walk my bike up and down the switchback and leave the fun tight turns to others. It clearly wasn’t designed for biking, although I totally get why a lot of people I know might have fun trying to do it on a bike. On second thought, maybe I should say “a few” people I know . . .

ParticipantThe trail was open when I came through this morning around 8:05 am – a happy surprise; but closed when I got there at 7:05 pm tonight, which I was not expecting at all.
What time this morning were you there, Rod? It looks like you used the route suggested in the first post in this thread. I’m not sure why I haven’t tried this yet. It might be easier than the Crystal City routes we’ve all been discussing.

ParticipantCould someone please re-post that map marked “YES” where the “NO?” is?
Otherwise everyone will get [more] confused [than we all already are].
Also, you all may want a good chaperone who can show you the best detour route. I haven’t ridden it yet, but the route Rod Smith took today might be the best and shortest one, as well as the only one that keeps you on trails right up to the detour point. I’ll try to check it out sometime next week.
It’s hard to guess right now when detouring will be needed. The relevant part of the FMR trail was open around 8 am this morning, but closed tonight when I tried to come through at 7:05 pm.

ParticipantCool! I’ve always wanted to ride my bike in a Barnes and Noble!
Just kidding – that sounds like a great way to recover to me!

ParticipantThanks so much for suggesting that, but I didn’t see your note until after I had made other plans for tonight. Sorry you couldn’t join us last night, but look forward to seeing you at the BAFS happy hour!
I need to do a full post on this tomorrow, but the BAFS Happy Hour will officially start April 3 at 5 pm, although, as usual, anyone is welcome to come earlier.
I know a lot of us come by bike, but I’ll also mention that Shirlington has plenty of free parking starting at 5 pm. There is also a new bikeshare station almost across the street from Cap City Brewing, and a major bus station across the street from that.
An early heads up on one other thing too – those who would like to have an “official” BAFS nametag should try to let me know as soon as possible ahead of time if they plan to come to the event.

ParticipantAny guesses as to whether FMR might be open around 5:15 pm this afternoon? Trying to decide which route to take. If in doubt, I’ll leave it out.
Arlingtonrider
ParticipantCap City it is then. I’ll try to get there as early as I can and will look for you and whoever else might like to join us.

ParticipantI had forgotten about the coffee clubs when I wrote that, but I’m up for anything anyone wants to do today and/or tomorrow evening regardless. I’ll be offline for awhile this afternoon, so anyone should feel free to make a decision and I’ll join you there. Any preferences, Chris or Carol? Earliest I can leave the office will be around 5. Hope that’s not too late.

ParticipantSpeaking of which, would anyone like to get together for a quick post-BAFS celebration after work tonight or tomorrow?
My thoughts are perhaps Good Stuff Eatery in Crystal City, Heavy Seas Alehouse in Rosslyn, or Cap City in Shirlington (Thursday night special pricing), but am open to other ideas as well.
