Welcome to Arlington! Long time resident of Pentagon City so feel free to shoot me any questions on this forum or via a private message. :D

There is a forum happy hour tonight at Capital City Brewery in Shirlington (near the start of the W&OD) tonight starting about 5:00ish. It would be a great opportunity to meet lots of people from this forum; if you wish to attend, please send a PM to Arlington Rider or post an affirmative on that thread so another chair can be put out. We’ll be out on the patio.

Welcome to the forum! Newcomers and forum lurkers are always welcome at Third Thursday happy hours (as well as any of the coffee clubs), and they’re a great chance to meet many of the forum regulars and make new friends. Details about the happy hour today are in a thread under “Events”.

As Kathy mentioned, a heads up that you’re coming is much appreciated so we can have enough seating. We have nametags to help you get acquainted, and if I know that you’re coming, I can usually bring some area bike maps and maybe some welcoming swag.

I just wanted to let you all know that, while it looks any rain will hold off until after 7 p.m., we’ll be under the covered part of the patio tonight.

Also, I’ll bring several instant rain vests with me in case anyone needs one for the ride home. (Mine worked great for me last night, even though I waited too long to put it on.)

There is also covered bike parking available nearby if needed.

Except those who need to save stick figure chairs for them to sit in, lol! Thanks for the update.

We’ve got about 17 people so far. Anyone else? Does anyone need any additional information? It should be a great day out on the patio!

Bumping this up. It looks like the chance for rain is trending downward. :-) @Arlingtonrider 92442 wrote:

Let’s do it again! August 21 at Capitol City Brewing Co. in Shirlington, starting at 5 pm and likely not ending until well past GP Cross Practice. New folks and cyclocrossers welcome too!

As usual, please let me know if you plan to come so we can have seats for you. (We ran a little short last time despite my adding a few.)

I’m a little shocked at the new lanes on S Hayes Street. They are taking out parking spaces!!!!! 😮 It is gonna be so nice when it is done; hopefully the meters will be taken out soon and no parking signs will be put up.

I think most of the parking is just being moved to outside of the bike lane, but we’ll have to watch for people crossing the bike lane to get to the parking meters. There’s a graphic that shows that somewhere that will be used to educate drivers. I rode there yesterday – it looks nice!

Uh oh! Time is sneaking up on me. You should drink on August 21 at Capitol City Brewing Company in Shirlington! I’ll start a new thread to announce that.

I’m really sorry you had to go through all that too. Hains Point is a lovely place to ride most evenings. If you want to get all that bad juju out and hang with some nice folks for awhile, come join us for a Kidical Mass ride sometime. :)

Another South Arlington item for the wish list: On the sidewalk/trail near where S. Arlington Mill Drive meets Shirlington Road, there is a lamppost in the middle of the sidewalk that makes that corner a little dicey sometimes. It would be great if that lamppost could be moved. Also, sidewalk near the lamppost has a now small but growing pothole.

I cede HP during the Thursday evening Peleton Prime Time. Any other day of the week, or even later on Thursday, is much better. There are few places in the area for people to train, and I’d rather have them do it there on a designated evening than on the trails. It was pretty mellow at HP by 7:30 last night.

I was thinking fish tacos at the Mexican place, followed by a sorbet at Dairy Godmother. I’m running a little late but hope to be there by 6 or 6:15. Let me know if interested. Just saw note above. I think I was thinking of Taquaria Poblano. Any and all are welcome! Anyone interested?

Cyndi, that was so much fun! Thanks for organizing it, sharing your always great company and delicious rugula, and coming up with such a terrific idea in the first place. You’ve thought of great locations too! Thanks again for another really enjoyable get-together.

I just found out that I have meetings before and after lunch, so I’ll have to meet you all at Constitution Gardens as well.

I may cruise in sometime around then also. It sounds like a perfect excuse for a Del Rey dinner. Is anyone else interested in that? I’d be glad to lead a convoy for anyone who hasn’t biked there before. Del Rey is very bikeable and there are lots of great inexpensive dining choices.
