Many thanks to all who came out to join us last night! We had a great turnout and lots of fun things to celebrate (go Jens!). I’ll post up a little more about the evening tonight or this weekend.

You can come. You just have to pay for all the beer. ;)

    LOL @ Rootchopper.

Scoot, of course you can come! We love noob part-time commuters and we were all there ourselves at one point or another. By the way, you and Lord of the Mark both have impressive commutes for just starting out. We look forward to meeting you and helping you celebrate your accomplishments!

If anyone else would like to join us, please try to let me know by 3 pm or so. Thanks!

p.s. to Kel – Check your PMs.

I’m a huge fan of moose mitts and bar mitts. Both are great, and only require the use of very light gloves even in super cold weather. I bought the moose mitts first, then was gifted some bar mitts, which I now like better in wet or real windy conditions. Cold hands are never an issue anymore. (p.s. There’s no need to have both – I just do.)

Please join us starting at 5 pm this Thursday at Capitol City Brewing Co. in Shirlington to celebrate the beginning of the wonderful Fall biking season. Newcomers and forum lurkers are very welcome and we’ll have nametags to help everyone get acquainted. (For any who might be interested, this is also a great opportunity to learn about the Freezing Saddles competition from those who have participated in it.) The weather looks like it will be fantastic, but with the days getting cooler and shorter, this will probably be the last Third Thursday Happy Hour of the season.

Cap City has great pricing on beers and appetizers on Thursday nights, but their patio seating is very popular so I do need to have a headcount in advance to reserve our seats and tables. If you haven’t rsvp’d, there may not be enough seating for you, so please either post on this thread or send a private message if you plan to join us. Hope to see you there!

Parking info: There is lots of car and bike parking in Shirlington, as indicated on the diagram attached below. If you don’t see a space to lock up to immediately, just cross the street to the Shell Station and look about a quarter or half block up Quincy St. (on the same side of the road as the Shell Station), and you’ll see covered bike parking with U racks for 28 bikes. Speaking of happy hours, the weather for next Thursday is looking just about perfect! Patio space will be at a premium, so once again, please let me know as soon as you can if you plan to join us so we can have adequate seating. I’ll post a few more details tonight for any newcomers. Hope to see you there!

Did WABA send something out today about the routes? I’m registered but haven’t received anything from them other than my receipt a few weeks ago.

Update: Found it in my spam folder. Thanks for the tip!

In doing your planning, you might want to double check opening times, especially for the first place(s) you plan to visit. Another group doing something similar found that the opening times shown on the websites were sometimes incorrect.

Thanks so much to everyone who came and made last evening so much fun! Thanks too for all the helpful rsvps, even the last minute ones – that helped us have seats for all 24 of us! It was a great evening to spend outdoors and the weather cooperated for the most part. It was nice to meet KWL, ajhokie and no falls too. Let’s do it again next month!

Welcome – I added you to the list! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Here is some parking information for both cars and bikes:

Capitol City Brewing Co. is right next to Garage No. 3 in the diagram. In case you’re coming by car, parking is free in most of the Shirlington garages after 5 p.m.
