Any idea if the Strava logging works? From what I read on the NBC website yesterday, its been buggy.
It doesn’t seem to be working for me at this point. No time now to fool around with it.

And we’re up to 191 riders.
Up to 192 now – just signed up for this year. Nice to have the integrated Strava logging!

ParticipantIn case any newcomers need this info, bike parking in Shirlington is pretty easy with either a cable or U lock. There’s also plenty of parking for cars and it’s free in most of the Shirlington Village garages after 5 pm. Attached below is a diagram showing the various parking garages and also where Cap City is in relation to the Shirlington bus transit center. There are lots of buses that run between Shirlington and the Pentagon metro station. There’s also a bikeshare station almost directly across from the Shirlington bus station and just around the corner from Cap City. Transportation to the happy hour is easy!

ParticipantDue to my allergies and cooler than expected weather, we’ll probably have the Cap City happy hour indoors tomorrow, most likely at the tables on the left as you enter. All are welcome to join us! RSVPs aren’t as important this time since we’re not trying for patio space on a nice day.

ParticipantBumping this up. All are welcome to help us kick off the new Third Thursday happy hour season (even though this particular one is on the fourth Thursday) at Capitol City Brewing Co in Shirlington on the 23rd. We’ll get together around 5 pm an the patio. Newcomers, BAFS alumni and those considering biking on Bike to Work Day are especially welcome. If possible, please let me know if you plan to come so we can save seats. Look forward to seeing you!

ParticipantLAST MINUTE ROUND-UP OF HAPPY HOUR INFORMATION
Shirlington has lots of bike parking (official and unofficial)! The parking map on the first post in this thread shows where a lot of it is located.In addition, and not shown well on the diagram, the bus station, just up S. Quincy Street from Cap City, has U racks for about 21 bikes under an awning. There is also lots of bike parking at the library down the street near the Harris Teeter. Also, it’s fine to lock up to lamp posts (need a cable lock), so long as you don’t block where pedestrians walk.
If parking seems to be getting overly tight in all the obvious places, we’ll get one of our #BAFS folks with local knowledge to assist any who might be having difficulty finding a place.
Bikeshare and a major bus station are also available close by. There are two close bikeshare stations, one on s. Quincy Street across from the bus station, and one on S. Arlington Mill Drive across from the Hilton. Multiple buses run from the Pentagon to Shirlington. (The 7A, 7C, 7F, 7Y and ART 87X among them.)
Once you’ve entered Cap City, we have a private room to the left of the hostess stand. At the back of that room is an area where you can easily store backpacks, panniers, jackets etc. where they will be out of the way but accessible.
Please remember to bring $5-$10 cash per person to contribute for the shared appetizers. We’ll be collecting for that at the station where the award name tags are given out.
Beers will be at happy hour prices and our waiters have agreed to do individual checks for all 80+ of us. We have an awesome team of Cap City’s hardest working waiters, so please keep them in mind when you pay your tab.
Please let me know if there are any more questions I can help with. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

ParticipantWe’ll miss you, Sarah. Thanks again for all that you did to support BAFS riders on March 19!

ParticipantI’ll be there and hope we can fill the room, even if we can’t all stay for the whole meeting.
Come on people – this is important to us!
Does anyone want to meet somewhere to eat before the meeting?

(Stealing from the WABA messaging…but, with a purpose, we need people to show up!)
The Arlington County Board is holding a public hearing on the transportation budget on Tuesday, March 24th at 7:00 pm.
The public hearing will be held in County Board room at 2100 Clarendon Blvd. Suite 300, Arlington, VA 22201.
There are some key folks signed up to testify early in the hearing. A speaker early on will ask all residents in attendance who supporting biking to stand up.
A strong showing of support is needed.
Come at 7:00 pm and stand for biking.
~~~
Adding to WABA message: 2100 Clarendon has tons of bike racks outside. Close to bikeshare. Close to Metro. Close to eating establishments that serve beer. What more could you ask for?
ParticipantIt sounds like this Wednesday’s final garage races will be even more fun than usual! They’re now planning a “Tandem, Cargo and Bikeshare Showdown” in addition to the B and C races and the Fixed Gear Finale.
Registration is still open for all but the C races. These are really fun events to watch, and those who have raced say that they’re very fun to participate in too. Admission to watch is free.
The races are held in the bottom levels of the garage at 2345 Crystal Drive from roughly 6 to 8 pm, and beer and Sol Schott’s awesome Acme pies (by the slice or whole) are sold at the event.
If watching, you may want to bring an additional layer to wear as it is sometimes a little cool in the lower levels of the garage, although it hasn’t been as cold as it was the first couple of times.
