This is pretty much my ride, do not recall seeing it (but I rode early, got to Navy Yard area around 8 AM)
Thanks! – I arrived at Navy Yard at 7:30 a.m., so you would’ve seen it…

ParticipantI’ll be at Columbia Pike.
Any chance we could have a small group go to the Shirlington area? I see several people on bikes along four mile run trail without lights at night, and they appear to work in Shirlington restaurants and businesses… they probably will be working while we’re out there distributing lights…argyrocket

Is this the same Lucia that is currently killing it on the National Bike Challenge locally here in Arlington?
Oh goodness, this is too much attention! I’m gonna go back to my cocoon!

Ha! Small world! I’ve been communicating with Lucia on/off for a couple of years since we both work for the same agency. Will meet her in person for the first time next week at a luncheon. She is the captain of the May Cascades challenge I am on. She has always struck me as *very* nice, laid back, inclusive, and totally non-competitive (in a good way). Guess her secret is out of the bag! Go Argentine Rocket!!!
You guys! You’re embarrassing me! 😮
I look forward to meeting you next week Kathy!argyrocket

I knew this had to be Lucia. She’s very modest, but a killer both on the bike and on foot. Several years ago she got me to run in a 5-miler for charity. This was a long time after I had quit running, so I smugly thought I would pace myself by running with her. Not a chance. I never saw her again after the first mile.
I purposedly make myself look like a massive clunky mess, so people have low expectations!

Heading south on Westmoreland, I pull up to the light at Kirby behind another cyclist (an exceedingly rare occurrence.) She, not looking ELITE or anything, turns and says “you can go ahead, I’m slow up the hill.” At this point, I have no reason to think that I’ll be any quicker up the hill than she, so I decline…
Light changes and she takes off like a rocket. I tried to keep up just to see what kind of pace she was making, but I barely could keep within a couple hundred feet of her all the way down Westmoreland and onto the W&OD until I exited at the Westover Connector. When I uploaded my ride into Strava, she popped up as being someone on the same ride, and sure enough, she got the QOM for the hill at Longfellow MS.
The whole incident makes me feel like she’s some sort of Cat6 hustler who feeds on the crushed egos of those who eagerly take her up on her offer, only to get dropped like a hot rock 50 feet off the line. I am fortunate that I did not fall for her trick, but some of you might not be so lucky…so watch out, dear friends, the Cat6 is strong with this one.
Me: (already exhausted from going up the previous Westmoreland hills) “Oh no, there are two cyclists behind me! I hope they get ahead of me so I don’t have to go fast up this hill” – Where are those jerk cyclists that get ahead of everyone at the traffic lights when you need them???
