What Dirt said on 3, 6, and 8.
Maybe consider getting rollers instead of a trainer.
Checking out your LBS will often let you try before you buy.
Conte’s, Cyclelife, and Bonzai come to mind as places to check out a high quality trainer or rollers.

disclaimer: I have never used any of these

Did those 2-3″ stop you? I have an image in my head of you cackling and riding through the water at full speed, fenders somehow magically keeping you dry.

I’ve heard people opine that “walk” means walk, implying that it isn’t ok to ride through at speed even if you have the signal. I couldn’t find anything in the Virginia code definitive either way though, at least back when I looked.

    ยง 46.2-904 says

“No person shall ride a bicycle … on a sidewalk, or across a roadway on a crosswalk, where such use of bicycles … is prohibited by official traffic control devices.

A person riding a bicycle … on a sidewalk, shared-use path, or across a roadway on a crosswalk, shall have all the rights and duties of a pedestrian under the same circumstances. “

Which I understand as, ‘there are no signs prohibiting riding a bike through the crosswalk, so it’s ok!’ but then again, I’m not a lawyer.

Dirt gets a photo credit on ARLNow, and the idiocy in the comments section continues!

I didn’t ride far this morning, but the mist hanging in the air was surreal, my headlight seemed to go on forever!

Perhaps a stupid question, but what if I’m looking to buy a brand not carried by the shop doing the fitting? Would they go over the geometry specs of the bikes I have in mind and help me narrow down my choice and choose sizes? Adjust the handlebars and seat on a later visit?

I’m sort of in between deciding whether my current bike can be made to work and buying a new one, so I might want a consultation in that regard as part of this, too.

I think that most decent shops should be able to look at you and maybe check out the geometry of the bike on the internet and get you on the proper size frame, although odds are someone in the shop has some experience on whatever bike you’re looking at. the fit is really to fine tune all your bike’s components to get the optimum setup for your riding style, and I’ve seen plenty of folks bring in a bike that isn’t sold in the shop. Fitting is a service and shouldn’t be tied to sales. Also, it never hurts to ask, I’ve found most places to be very open to conversation. If not, find a better shop.

I’ve read up on everything from the cheap instep to the “cadillac” models burley/chariot that run dor 500-600.

you can find the nice models on CL for under $200. A friend of our just picked up a burley that converts in to a stroller that was 2 yrs old but in “like new” condition for $150. Personally, I’d go that route rather than paying full retail for a lower end product.

Unfortunately, our car is currently full. We had a hell of a time finding accomodations, and that was a few months ago. all the hotels in Sailsbury seem to book up VERY early for this. It’s my first time, and we’re heading down friday night, crashing in a fleabag motel and doing the ride, then driving back the next day. Good luck, maybe we’ll see you there! (though likely not, i heard there are tons of people)

I’m seeing an overlap of the attachment and tag images when I use the ‘New Posts’ search or ‘What’s New’ button. browsing threads does not produce this result. It covers page 2 and 3 of the thread.

They also won’t count the people that no longer use those trails because it’s too dangerous.
