ParticipantThis looks like an incredibly fun ride. I’m marking it on my calendar for 2013.

ParticipantCrossing on the W&OD would be much nicer, although maybe a bit out of your way. perhaps a route like this http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=4920+Stringfellow+Road,+Centreville,+VA+20120+(Stringfellow+Road+Park+and+Ride)&daddr=38.8591998,-77.3477196+to:38.8905,-77.21552+to:3141+Fairview+Park+Drive,+Falls+Church,+VA+22042-4531+(Fairview+Park+Cafe)&hl=en&ll=38.868315,-77.307701&spn=0.14194,0.220757&sll=38.860563,-77.336025&sspn=0.070978,0.110378&geocode=FenYUAIdtOVi-yH40VOyjjX3VA%3BFb_xUAIdecRj-yk1SinpPU-2iTGMpZ0–yK4pg%3BFQRsUQId4Mhl-ykj4t13Pku2iTGBudU6-l9nzw%3BFUX3UAIddMNl-yEqhV6cwcq1Vimdmt7loUy2iTFR9-bdxAlsgw&vpsrc=6&dirflg=b&mra=dvme&mrsp=1&sz=13&via=1,2&t=m&z=12&lci=bike

ParticipantArticle on lifehacker about why not saying anything might encourage bad behavior. Applicable to cyclist/motorist interaction?

ParticipantFirst place I’d check is where the cable meets the sensors, or the mount. Next I’d look for places it might have contacted while on the rack. Possible you got some salt or sand in the connection between the mount and the display. Lastly I’d check the battery, if you haven’t replaced that in a while.

I passed and glanced back to see that she didn’t even have a kid in her stroller! WTF?
As a new dad in a family with one car, I sometimes walk with the stroller on the trail to pick up the little one and bring her back home. Now that doesn’t justify the muttering she did or side by side rolling blockade, but it might explain the absence of kids. Either that or they were invisible.

All the cool kids are doing it.
I had suspected, but now it’s confirmed. I am totally uncool. Better see if I can get a refund on my buddy holly frames and skinny jeans.

ParticipantQuick shout out and thanks to the folks I saw counting trail users on my morning commute at the Custis Trail in Falls Church, and on the Key Bridge. Why no counter at the top of the hill in Rosslyn though?
americancyclo
ParticipantI was riding in on the Custis this morning, and had picked up a wheelsucker around Ballston. He was right behind me on the downhill in to Rosslyn until Oak St., where he went out in to traffic on Lee Highway against traffic to pass me and some pedestrians before swooping back in through the Key Bridge Marriott parking lot. Then another cyclist DID THE SAME THING. I was so astonished I wasn’t sure what to think. I waited at the light to cross N. Fort Myer Dr and watched them both go over the Key Bridge on the north side. I made my way across Lynn (without getting hit!!) and through Georgetown only to catch up to these two guys again at Penn and 17th where they blew through a red light towards the White House in front of two bike cops. I followed them until they turned on G St and finished my commute.
I admit I bend the rules here and there, but am I wrong to think that riding against traffic on Lee Highway on wet roads is a little bit crazy?

Any recommendations, preferably around $100?
I haven’t saved up the coin for an Exposure light yet, but after a year of use, I’m still really happy with my NiteRider MiNewt 250 Cordless LED Headlight. It lights up the trail, usb chargable, and detaches easily. It also fits in to your budget on sale at performance for $99. It’s being retired for newer brighter models, so you might be able to get a similar deal at your LBS if they are getting rid of old stock.

ParticipantI’m a fan of the Flippin in Falls Church. Not sure where the other locations are, trying to figure out whether it’s worth a ride to one for free pizza and a drink.
Edit: Looks like I’ll be going up to Dupont Circle for some pizza!
