Heading from 7th towards the White House, then on up 15th has gotten a lot more annoying because of some small changes to the timing.
I rode that stretch again on the 29th, and I can save at least 3 minutes taking independence and then cutting up to 15th. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s less time, and more time moving instead of stopping, clipping out and back in.

They will, however, be very, very useful.
Does it get windy on that ride? I’m a Seagull virgin.

My bike is ready for Seagull Century
I’m glad you’ll be hard to miss. I’ll be there on Grimace and I’ll keep an eye out for ya, or at least warn my other riding buddies to shield theirs. :p

ParticipantHaven’t been there personally, but it looks like there are a bunch of mapped rides near Stevensville.

ParticipantI’d go for the first option. Martha’s Vineyard (no actual vineyard) deserves a trip of its own, and is easily explored by bike at a leisurely pace. Go for the real winery, and save the MV trip for when you have the time to enjoy it, and invite family down for a day visit or two. That way, you can fotog as much as you want, see your fam, and enjoy the biking on the island without having to cram it all in to one weekend. You can get some real decent rates at some of the BnBs in Oak Bluffs.

ParticipantWelcome to the forum! Hope you get to enjoy some time on the bike this weekend before the rain rolls in!

the intersections without left turn arrows saying “No Left/U turns”
These signs frustrate me, since I think some drivers can’t really see that it is ‘No Left’ AND ‘No U-Turn’
Either that or they choose to ignore it completely.

brake levers are a bit closer
I know that most brakes come with shims to make them shorter throw. Might want to ask about that on any test rides if the brake reach is an issue, the shop may not have installed them when the bike was built.

ParticipantThe folks at Eye Central in DC on Penn Ave sell Rudy Project eyewear, which I’ve never used or heard of, but might be worth checking out.
They have a product selector which you can filter for prescription lenses

ParticipantLooks like the Dolce goes all the way down to a 44. Might not be able to get around the water bottle issue. My wife is 5’3″ and She currently rides an XS Sirrus, or maybe it’s just an ‘S’. Have you made the rounds at the shops yet?

I did most of my drinking before I was 30, but I still dabble now and again, even though I’ve passed that milestone.
welcome to the forum, and cycling!

Personally, I’m just waiting for someone to tell us about the importance of using Monster patch cables for improved sound.
Monster cables are the BEST because they’re made from GOLD. I replaced all my stock derailleur and shifting cables with Monster cables as soon as I got it back from the bike shop. Shifts and brakes so much quieter now. Totally worth the investment.

ParticipantI couldn’t make it but would love to hear what was discussed. Are meeting minutes posted anywhere?

This is infuriating (not you, the fact that you felt you had to make this choice) – experienced cyclists choosing not to use the dedicated bike facilities because they feel safer riding on another street in traffic.
It is mostly due to the fact that the signal timing is off, making the bike lanes painfully slow. Independence is timed reasonably well, and from point A to B, it can make up to a ten minute difference. Also, crazy U turn drivers.

ParticipantIf cars aren’t making illegal u-turns mid-block, then they’re doing it in the intersections, and cutting cyclists off in the process. It’s something I’ve learned to live with riding the Penn Ave lanes almost as much as Dirt. I’ve actually changed my westbound commute pattern so I can avoid these lanes in the evening unless I’m specifically meeting up with someone. Independence Ave has more traffic, but at least it flows better and is marginally more predictable.
