I had a daylight jogger pull that on me on the way home yesterday at the bridge over spout run.
Most joggers pick visual cues as their turnaround point. My spidey sense always starts tingling at the beginning or end of a bridge, cross roads, or sign posts.

If you don’t have a bracket on your bike for your lock (does anyone actually use those?)

I do on my crappy weather metro commuter.

I’ll try and do that on Monday. Thanks!

Has there been any progress on the Custis lights? There are about 6 of them west of George Mason Drive. I’d be happy to stop and get the numbers, but I don’t want to duplicate any efforts.

We aren’t working with any running stores, but we are working with local bike shops, outdoor stores and hardware stores to provide discounts on lights.

It would be wonderful to see a coordinated push for visibility on the part of ALL trail users advocates in the entire area. I hear a lot of talk about the dangers of ninjas on the trails, and it would be nice if running retailers and advocates were spreading the message instead of the cyclists always having to shoulder the sole responsibility to see and be seen.

Here’s a cheatcheet for those interested in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia cycling laws.

    http://waba.org/resources/laws.php

On those sections of Beach Drive and Jones Mill cyclists have use of the full lane:
Full lane use allowed when traveling in a lane too narrow to share.
Allowed when it does not impede traffic. May not ride more than two abreast.

How would you measure capacity – vehicles per lane per hour? Or passengers per lane per hour? I’d argue the latter measure is superior.

That’s an interesting way to look at it, as far as the road potential to move people. I think when I see arguments about 66 being ‘at capacity’ I think they are saying that they are stuck in traffic. I wonder how often the idea that the potential number of people could be 4x greater than traffic with single occupant only is really addressed?

sometimes the tightening of the screw near the spring of the pad that is rubbing will help it pull away from the rim.

@Tim Kelly- Is there any outreach coordination with local running groups or running stores?

Pacers, G’town Running, Potomac River, and Road Runner seem like good candidates.

So do I assume that the piece of paper “they” were trying to jam into my hands as I bike by at Lynn and Lee Hwy was the VDOT survey?

If it was a yellow half-sheet, then yes, I think it was a piece of paper with a web address of the survey.

Maybe they should stuff them in a bidon next time, TdF style!

Excellent timing! I need to go to Potomac Yards on my way from DC to West Falls Church. Is there any access from the north, or 4 mile run? Am I better off just going on Rte 1?

I’ve chatted with a woman on the W&OD who was using one while she was recovering from an injury. She said she had a hard time finding a shop to true her wheels, and that the add-on kit she got had some battery issues. Can’t offer much more than that, though. Good luck!
