ParticipantI will again sponsor the Strava Art pointless prize, which this year has a motto:
“Ars longa, arse frezis”Allan C
ParticipantA tip of the beret to everyone who participated. Big kudos to Komorebi, this year’s first runner up (for Hain’s Point fox that looks like a racoon) and to our winner, FastFriendlyGuy, who is both talented and prolific. And, I assume, fast and friendly.

ParticipantEntries to the BAFS 2017 Strava Art competition are now closed. Stay tuned for the announcement of the winner from the good people at PWC, and in the meantime, feel free to keep making (and sharing) pictures out there on the road. As Picasso said, “Don’t be an art critic, but paint, there lies salvation.” Actually, it was Cezanne who said that. Fucking PWC.

… thanks to a regional weather pattern called a Chinook (look it up DiCaprio), winter weather CAN be very mild in Calgary. It’s not uncommon to see weather in the 30s and 40s in Calgary in January and February. It’s also not uncommon to see it in the -10s and -20s, but who cares about that?
I spent part of my childhood in Calgary. You could walk to school in a foot of snow at well below freezing and, when a chinook hit, walk home in a t-shirt.
Meanwhile in DC, my highly unscientific estimate of winter ridership is based on the office bikeroom, which can have 40 bikes in summer and typically about 8 on a day like today.

ParticipantThe judging of this thing is all of a sudden really challenging.

That’s great! Better idea that might be more convenient: What about BYOC, and meet up at the little park area just after the bridge as you ride into Montgomery County?
That would be fun, albeit more so on a mild morning that a cold one.

This contest piqued my curiosity and, sure enough, Reddit’s got it covered….
http://www.reddit.com/r/STRAVAart/This one is mind-boggling in detail and size (60 miles +). Note the discussion of the GPS on/off trick, which takes your road doodling to a whole other level.

And, just to be crystal clear, the link above is NOT a BAFS entry!
