Participantthis is a great idea but you might want to consider letting him and his buddy select their ride and venue. They’ve got the road bikes so why rent and they’d probably prefer riding on bikes they know. Suggest giving him a card informing of your offer and let them decide where and when to go. an overnight ‘ride’ requires carrying supplies with them on the bike and they may not want to do that. a drive to start and road ride and then relaxed dinner and another ride the next morning before heading home would be pretty nice. you might select an area like (is it) St Elizabeth on the eastern shore but they might find that a littly to cozy and romantic…haha! there are nice rail trails in PA, DE, MD…maybe they can find a nice paved trail http://www.railstotrails.org. good luck.

Participantyou could try Gabe Rousseau (Gabe.Rousseau@dot.gov)…he has visibility of bike issues at the national level…don’t think anyone keeps a list of fed cyclists but i’d bet WABA and PPTC could reach out to there members to find the feds and you could continue from there…i’m a fed commuting from Falls Church to 12th & D SW (near Waterfront)

Participant1. good thing little girl wasn’t hurt and dad didn’t explode.
2. good to take caution upon approach. in similar situations i take the next step and ring the bell – or audible – BIKE!!!
3. the multi use trails were not and never have been intended to be personal Time Trial Training grounds. they are point to point travel routes for a variety of users. Those of us and others who believe the are our personal training grounds are….uh…is idiots too strong?adamx
ParticipantAnn; with these weather forecasters you could be held hostage into eternity..these weather dudes are awful…i’ve been commuting in the area for about 6 years and by stroke of pure luck and timing i’ve only been caught in rain or storms going home a few times..amazing…i leave the office near sw waterfront between 5 and 6 every day and normally the storms have gone by or i get caught in the last mile of my ride to falls church…agree with 1/8th there’s no need for rain gear when its in the 70s…dont fear the rain and thunder but seek shelter from lightning and RIDE all week!!!

ParticipantI work for ICE and am at Potomac Center North (PCN) at 12th and D SW…there are about a dozen of us parking our bikes regularly in the building garage…when i got there two years ago i contacted the Facilities Manager right away to request access to the garage only for bike parking..they coded my badge for garage parking but didn’t give me a pass for my car…so, i dont have any problems at all getting in to the garage..recently one of my co-workers was getting grief from the guards for not having proper garage access but he got it all taken care of…anyway, as mentioned, once you get your badge and access to the building you should be able to park your bike in the garage…and i doubt other buildings will let you park your bike if not directly affiliated with that building or organization…

Participanti do the same as jimff2203…post rides through the year and then move them to the next year once they’ve past…check balto bike club, reston bike club and the free sports mags you find at metro stops and bike shops like DC Sports and Blue Ride whatever and there’s another

Participantw/out looking at DC bike map suggest custis through rosslyn to Mt Vernon along river and over 15th (or 14th st) bridge…down to Jefferson Memorial and Right on Main (near sw waterfront) and you are only 1.4 miles from the stadium. Main gets heavy traffic at rush hour and certainly around ball game time but its rideable for a seasoned rider. And dont forgert free bike valet at the ball park.

Participantthere are also lockers at dunn loring and west falls church…i ride from wfc to dc everyday…

Participantif you are arriving at Union station best thing to do is head straight to the new Bicycle Facility just outside. They should be able to provide you best route and a DC Cycle Map. Best route sorta also depends on what time of day you arrive.

Participantthat’s a great idea and makes me wonder how much bicycle part recycling anyone is doing…i read in Potomac Peddler recently of an effort in MD (monty county?) to facilitate ‘tire’ recycling cause bicycle tires weren’t accepted with car tires…how many tires, tubes and helmets are shops tossing into the trash everday?

Participantits been along time since i’ve ridden on the CC trail but what i’ve experienced in the past was the trail was pretty well maintained to the DC/MD line…after the tunnel (direction Bethesda) there is historically no trail maintenance…difference between MD managing the trail and US Park Service…i think.
