Participant1/14/2021: Benedict Arnold anagram
Here’s a picture of the word “Breadline” (see, I am trainable!). Too bad they’re closed. Their bread was better than Arnold’s, and I hear they made a great Eggs Benedict.

Ahhh, I misunderstood the instructions. I guess the five new rules for today’s hunt were TLDR for me

ParticipantI’m very disappointed that no one used “sh*thole” as their Liam Hemsworth anagram. Porta-potties are everywhere waiting to be photographed, and one could even argue that right now any picture taken in the United States qualifies.

1/13/21 – “Liam Hemsworth” Anagram Word
I have noticed as I ride along the section of the W&OD from Bluemont to Columbia Pike, where it parallels Four Mile Run, that the path has its own temperature. The trail is in a valley, and with the stream running alongside I find that on winter mornings it maintains a temperature that’s quite a bit cooler than the surrounding areas. Likewise, it can be foggier along this part of the trail on foggy days. I guess the topography and the stream create an “isothermal” environment.

1/11/21 – Plane
Some of you may remember from physics class that an inclined plane is one of the six simple machines (the others are Lever, Wheel and Axle, Pulley, Wedge, and Screw).
A bridge ramp is an example of an inclined plane. I remain optimistic that someday this one will carry W&OD riders over Rt. 29.

Participant1/10/21 – Nut
There were quite a few nuts attaching this power pole alongside the W&OD @ Gallows Rd. to its foundation.

1/8/21 – Bell (but not on a bike)
This bell is outside the firehouse at the corner of Wilson Blvd & George Mason Dr. – right beside the Bluemont Junction Trail.
Everyone loves a good lizard story, right? Every year on July 4th there’s a ceremony wherein they ring this bell. Back about ten years ago, when we had just gotten our pet lizard Cooper, we decided to attend the ceremony and bring him with us. Our previous lizards had been bearded dragons, which are very mellow and tend to sit still. We weren’t used to uromastyx, which are much squirmier and also like to hide in any cave-like area they can find. On the drive over, Cooper squirmed out of my wife’s hands and crawled deep under the passenger seat, where the was no way we could reach him, and there was nothing we could do to entice or prod him to come out. I actually wound up unbolting the seat and picking it up so that we could extract the darn lizard.

I didn’t have to go far for today’s picture. The item in question was in the sky above my bike as I left home for my ride.

ParticipantHad a medical appointment at Virginia Hospital Center – and there was the sign. I should put a sign like this on my front lawn, since one of them teacher heroes is upstairs heroing right now.
Biking bonus: there’s a long line to be COVID screened (temperature and questions) if you come into the hospital from the parking garage. If you walk in the front door after having locked your bike up out front, almost no line!

1/6/21 – Small Business that features beans. Happy hunting!
District Taco has grown from its food truck origins into a chain of a dozen or so physical locations, but I still consider it a small local business. Yes, I like it, and the reason is in its name – tacos!

Wise pointless prize folks- how do I get #BikeInfrastructure created for the leader boards?
The Freezing Saddles site hasn’t been updated with this year’s hashtags yet. All of the prizes posted there are still from last year. The tech team has been advised to use the list at the top of this thread (which includes #BikeInfrastructure) when they update for this year.

I like this idea – and as SteveO notes, it’s an idea with a noble provenance in Freezing Saddles. I recommend you create a separate thread where competitors can check in.

1/5/21 – on National Bird Day, take a pic of a bird. Let your imagination fly. Happy hunting!
I knew that a ride along Four Mile Run and the MVT would yield lots of opportunities for bird photos. Indeed it did – I wish I could show you all of them, but y’know, contest rule 9. Anyway, this photo from the Gravely Point parking lot is my favorite. I think this guy has a trip to the car wash in his future.
