I’m so sorry to hear that this happened to you! To me, the worst part of this sort of crime is the way it taints something that should be purely pleasurable.

When I’m in NY I see a lot of people using those super heavy chains, either by themselves or in combination with a U-lock (added bonus: they make an excellent fashion accessory and workout enhancer when worn as a belt). Back in the day I used to secure my quick releases to the fork & seat stays with pipe clamps. It’s rather inconvenient when you do actually want to take the wheel off, but it also inconveniences the potential thief – hopefully enough to send them on to a different target.

Your accordion game is unrivaled. I have to say, however, that I’m totally disappointed with your sock game.

A gentleman’s socks and accordion should always match.

    Warming Climate Ride #2

    https://www.strava.com/activities/871148983

Such an unseasonably lovely Saturday in February! My accordion and I were out in the backyard, enjoying the warm sun. Still, we were troubled. Troubled that a competitor had violated the spirit of this contest by posting a ride from a warm clime. O, why would someone choose to sully this genteel game with such an act??

“A bike ride would cheer us up,” said the accordion, and the accordion is seldom wrong. So I packed the little guy into his backpack, pulled on my swim trunks, and off we went.

Indeed it was! So now I know where you live!!!!

I figured that it was unlikely that there would have been two separate errant Quantico Street kugel deliveries in the last six weeks. Too bad you didn’t come to the door!

Here’s my very late entry. Dates back to our first “snow” of the season. Riding from the FMR Trail in Madison Manor over to Roosevelt Street, I was flagged down by a woman who was hopelessly lost while trying to deliver a kugel. Seems Arlington’s penchant for streets that are discontinuous had bolluxed this poor lady as she was in the 1200 block of Quantico but needed to get to the 1000 block. So I offered to lead her there on my bike. I navigated around and about to connect over to the needed address and she told me I was a “mensch.” This being Saturday, I wished her “Shabbat Shalom” and continued on my merry way. A little biking with a mitzvah.

I’m curious – was this 1/7? If so, the kugel’s destination was my house. It was a luckshen (noodle) kugel with fruit jam on top, and it was spectacular. Thank you for your service.

I’m going to try and stop by on Thurs on my way to rehearsal.

And for those who are looking for an “afterparty”, please go see Malarky Irish Band at The Celtic House on Columbia Pike starting at 8.

I unexpectedly had some free time this morning and so was able to join the first three stops of the Doughneuring ride. Thanks to Edelweiss for organizing this excellent event!

Stop 1: 202 Donuts. I didn’t buy a donut* but Wheels&Wings was good enough to give me a taste of hers. Despite the fact that their web site hails their “artisanal donuts”, W&W and I agreed that this was a disappointing, soggy product.

Stop 2: District Doughnut’s web site says they offer a “culinary sensation” and seek “to reimagine the concept of a doughnut* – an American classic – and bring it to life in a modern form.” My maple butter pecan doughnut (pictured below) was pretty tasty, but still, it was easy to set half of it aside.

Stop 3: Sugar Shack: Sugar Shack’s web site is refreshingly free of hipster-lingo self-aggrandizement, saying only that, “our donuts* and coffee are made the right way.” And their donuts were my favorite. Picutred below is a chocolate glazed number. I also enjoyed their blueberry cake donut.

*For each shop I spell donut/doughnut the way that they do.

My wife has a Catrike Trail. No major problems on the trails around here, though as already mentioned, the narrow pathways on the bridges (and certain narrow passages on trails) are a tight fit.

We shopped at both Mt. Airy and Vienna. Both will let you ride around in the parking lot.

The Trail folds. It’s not exactly small when collapsed – but folding it makes it compact enough to fit in the back of a small SUV or station wagon. Otherwise, carrying a trike on the car (if that’s a concern for you) is tricky.
