ParticipantI live nearby and have both ridden and driven this area. I’ve always thought these particular bike lanes are a bad idea. They’re narrow, discontinuous and connect to nowhere. Plus, the W&OD parallels this stretch just a few blocks away.

There’s a little groundhog day festival in Dupont Circle next Fri. They will have free coffee and other goodies there. Since there are several coffee and donut shops close by, if anyone would like to stay a little more afterwards, I’m thinking we can head to one of them to pick up some coffee and donut points.
FRIDAY, FEB 2, 2018 at 8:30AM sharp – GROUNDHOG DAY: Potomac Phil, the National Groundhog, will make an appearance and offer weather and political predictions. Phil will let us know whether to expect six more weeks of winter or an early spring. Live accordion music, polka dancers, puppet show, VIP celebrities and more. Dupont Circle, at the fountain. Potomac Phil will emerge at approximately 8:30AM or whenever he damn well pleases
You had me at “accordion music”

ParticipantNow I know the real reason for the 25 MPH speed limit in Falls Church – so they can chase down violators by bike.

Probably gonna ride gravel on Saturday with some Bikenetic peeps, all are welcome. Sunyata is leading the ride, starts at 10am from Rust Library in Leesburg. 38.8 mile ride, 2500′ of climbing, expect a 13-15mph pace. Finish at a brewery as yet TBD although I’m out for that part (stupid dry January…).
Link to the route, although no winery stop, brewery at the end instead.
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26736412That’s a nice route – I’ve ridden most of it at one time or another. I’ve got a music gig Saturday night and so am not going to be up for heavy miles on Saturday. Another weekend …

ParticipantThere are many more characters to mine from 70’s sitcoms – how about stepping into Welcome Back Kotter with ‘Rosalie’ (or alternately, ‘Hotsie’)?
When you buy a MTB you can name it “The Shark”.

It’s looking like I’ll have some things I’ll need to take care of on Sunday so Monday’s looking better for me. If I have the count right, Sunday is best for two and Monday is best for four with a potential +1, so I’ll make the call now and plan for Monday.
Caboose Brewery doesn’t open until noon on Monday; would an 11am departure time from Best Buns in Shirlington work?
One thought: We could save this ride for later and join the ride already being planned from Lazy Mike’s (Monday pancakes location) to Green Lizard at 0930. The second post here.

ParticipantI can’t make Sunday morning as I have a reservation to go practice kayak rolling (in a swimming pool which occasionally has sessions where they open the pool to kayakers, not on the river!). I could be up for a ride Monday.

ParticipantHi all! I live just off of Mile 4.5 of the W&OD (and shouting distance from teammate sjclaeys). I commute to Rosslyn – by bike as often as possible. I am a fairly new returnee to cycling and was just starting to build up some speed and distance abilities when I unexpectedly had to have some major MacGuyvering done on my heart last year, so now I’m building back up from zero yet again – I’m maybe a C/CC rider right now. I generally make at least one coffee club per week (CCCC, HDCC, WTFCC or Java Shack FCC).
I received a battlefield promotion to captain of this team at last night’s happy hour. Anyone else is welcome to take over
and certainly, everyone is encouraged to organize team events. Brewery rides, coffee rides, gravel rides, but I will sit out the team centuries …

I don’t like the sportsball either, but I like beer. What time are you going?
I don’t much follow the sportsball, but I do like to see JMU, my son’s alma mater, win.* The JMU sportsiness site says the game is at noon.

ParticipantIf you look at the list of Pointless Prizes (most recently updated here) you’ll see that it already includes the hashtags (as well as links to pertinent threads). I just updated it to include Sunyata’s new hashtags. I’m not generally fond of setups where you need to maintain the same information in multiple places, but I’ll let you decide if you want to continue this list.
I would like to make the Pointless Prize list a sticky, but I think that requires someone w/ higher forum access privileges to accomplish.
