Columbia avoids the bridge construction but not the Banneker Park section.
I do not understand this statement when the map you included in the very same post shows the route to take Columbia St. around Banneker Park.

ParticipantI avoid the whole mess and take Columbia Street.

The rest stop for the 32 mile route is Old Bust Head which opens at 10 am sos we could roll out at 9 am feasibly. Possible rain on Saturday bu the forecast has moved some throughout the week.
Dr. Teeth could be ready to ride at 9.

Glad you revived this thread, SteveO. With the lack of chatter I was starting to wonder if people were still planning on showing up. Be careful with your cape design!

ParticipantJust the other day I was teasing an Ashburn-based friend about lawlessness on her part of the W&OD, what with armed robbery and indecent exposure happening on the trail. Now it turns out we have our own problems – cyclist on cyclist friendly fire problems.

ParticipantW&OD Underpass is reopened!
Concrete surface rather than blacktop (more durable, I suppose). Some rocks newly piled up in the stream adjacent to the trail, I guess to route water away from the trail?

This is a good endorsement for building an underpass that won’t wash away in a flood …
I hope that in doing the reconstruction they either raise the whole path a few inches or add a raised lip at the water’s edge so that the trail doesn’t flood as often.

Achilles Schmillies. During Freezing Saddles 2017 I got a call from my doctor with some alarming cardiac test results. She said I should immediately curtail all exercise and get to a cardiologist ASAP. I said I would … then went for a bike ride. I woulda biked to the ensuing heart surgery too if my wife had let me.
On a less tangential note, I agree that we should make an effort to keep it friendly for newbies.
