thanks for the links. basically, any lock is breakable given enough time and the right tools. I can’t remember where I came across it but I read that you should spend x% in bike security for your value of a bike.

If you are using a cable lock, then it doesn’t matter how many people are around the bike, they wouldn’t notice a thing. My bike was stolen in a busy area around lunch hour and the people close to the bike rack didn’t notice anything unusual. Get a U-Lock if you don’t have one.
What did you lock up your bike with when it got stolen? I don’t have a u-lock so I’ll have to get one.
I wasn’t planning on leaving my bike for an extended period of time so getting a bike locker isn’t something I want to do.

Participantjust an update, I purchased the NR Minewt 650 and mounted it on my bars. For those of you that have this, do you use the flash mode on trails and roads? It seems really bright compared to the highest setting and im not sure if it is blindingly bright to oncoming traffic.

I took the plunge and got a NiteRider MiNewt 600 last fall. It’s been pretty awesome. I prefer the helmet mount to the handlebar, and the settings allow for bright enough -> super bright. We took it to the abandoned turnpike in PA and had no trouble seeing in the tunnels. The USB charging is easy too. You could probably get away with a 300 for what you want to do (cheaper). It’s way more $$ than what these guys were suggesting, but unless you’re deciding between food and a light, I think you’ll be happy with the purchase.
thanks, that’s happens to be the same light I was looking at getting

Participantthanks. I think I’d feel safer with a good set a of bike lights rather than mounting a flashlight to my bike. So 400 lumens would be enough to go through some of the dark sections of RCP trails? I was thinking of going with that and then possibly combining that with a 400 lumen helmet mounted in the future if needed.

ParticipantThanks for the replies. I’ll be coming down from Conn Ave so ill probably be using a portion of the bike path until I have to take Beach Rd. I guess Blagden is probably the best choice for me even If it means dealing with that intersection at Beach and Blagden in order to get to the bike path. I was just wondering if its really a pain to deal with that crossing..it seems like there’s a lot of traffic coming from all directions. thanks
