Has anyone had any experience with Shimano zinc derailleur cables – they are about 1/3 the price of stainless. I would be using them on a road and cross bike, and I get about one year’s worth of use out of the rear derailleur cable, much longer use for the front. From what I have read, any regular rider is likely to have a cable snap from fatigue before rust becomes an issue. You can also buy a ten-pack of the zinc cables, which is a plus.
Thanks.
The stainless cables are a little bit thinner and more flexible, and I find them a little easier to thread through housing and shifters. I spring for stainless over zinc/galvanized, but either works.
