Since The Washcycle isn’t posting a Christmas Wish List this year, I thought that maybe we could take on that task. What are your top 3 bike-related wishes for 2013 and beyond? They can be related to bike infrastructure or they can be personal items, like a new bike, new bike gear, etc.

    My top 3:

    1) Widen the Mt. Vernon Trail, especially from the 14th St. Bridge to Old Town Alexandria.

    2) Improve and widen the bike path from the 14th St. Bridge in D.C. to E. Basin Drive, in front of the Jefferson Memorial. That hill is dangerous because the path is so narrow.

    3) Aero race wheels!

Ample riding time and an extra 100 or so watts.

To continue to be able to pedal drop what is not good for the soul.

    Me too:

    1) Develop the power to set people on fire with my mind.
    2) See #1.

I’ll be there with my camera.

This could make for a really smashing science fiction short story – a la Kilgore Trout – in which the firestarting protagonist develops Tourette’s syndrome and must avoid mirrors and eventually becomes a hermit.

    With that said, my list:

    1. An eleveated, AASHTO-compliant multi-use path in a perfectly direct line between my house and all of my favorite local destinations. Ok, ok. I’ll settle for an improvement of the bike infrastructure on Beauregard down through Walter Reed to Shirlington and 4MR/W&OD.
    2. At least one ride in Medellin, Colombia SA when we head down there sometime this year.
    3. MORE TIME to ride.

    1)HRM
    2)Garment bag pannier
    3)Dog trailer
4)Stuff to convert my commuter bike to discs brakes up front

My other wishes, to climb in the Alps and watch the Tour de France in person, are on their way to being granted, as the flights/hotels/rental car are booked for this June/July (!!). So now, my wish is that I’ll gain enough fitness to make it over Col du Galibier and Alpe d’Huez without dismounting.

Last year at the USA Pro Cycling Bicycle Challenging Tour of Colorado I got his

national TT champion jersey (it’s over the PI on the left side).

Garmin’s bus was completely swamped this year so I couldn’t add to it, but Jens did throw me a bottle while warming up for the TT. I admit, I swooned a little.

    1. Repaving of FFX Co Parkway sidepath
    2. Herndon obtaining “Bike Culture”
    3. FABB becoming flush with donations and volunteers
    4. 8spd internal hub for my 3spd Dutch Bike (can’t hurt to ask)
    5. Finding a lugged steel bike on CL (58cm) to turn into a fast fun bike
    6. At least 4 really cool FABB social rides this year (all on me if it doesn’t happen)

I got a 7spd internal hub for my 3spd bike this year, MAJOR improvement, 7 or 8 is highly recommended.

    I would settle for:

    1) widen and repave MVT from Rosslyn to Reagan National Airport.
    2) repave the rest of the Custis Trail.
    3) Better signage on trails for walkers to stay right.

Why the 7spd and not the 8spd? Just curious. Seems to be about $15 diff at this point for the hubs I’m looking at.

    2) stop whining about not biking to work more
    3) Take my son (and his dog) up the C&O to go camping.

    5) repeat #4 whenever possible

I do not recall entirely it was in early 2012 that I got it done, believe it was something to do with any or all of these: 1) bike geometry 2) availability 3) getting some small accompanying part to the hub and/or 4) price discrepancy. For things like disc brake pads (for my other bike) and certain obscure tire sizes/brands, availability can be a real issue, find myself stock piling certain small things.

When my mom asked me want I wanted for Christmas, all I said was “DIABLO!!!!!” She was mildly terrified, but then I explained. So with that….

    1. Diablo
    2. That we all get along….bikes, cars, peds, future streetcars, etc. We’re all trying to do the same thing: get places. Hopefully we can all do it safely.
    3. Get to meet some of you out on the trails.

I think I’ve made it abundantly clear that one of the main reasons I bike is to counteract some of the beer consumption. To counteract it all I would probably have to be in Tour de France shape, so I don’t see that happening, but I do what I can.

During the holiday period gluttony I like to point out to my coworkers that I EAT AND DRINK WHATEVER I WANT ALL THE TIME and have lost 22 pounds this year. No one in the office likes me.
