Just forsake the lycra. It’s easy if you give it a try.

Gee, hasn’t he made an effort to get her on the bike, even in a casual manner?

She needs to be encouraged to find her inner Bikeyface.

This hits close to home. I saw this posted over at bikeforums net, and thought it was worthy to share here.

Should we start a support group?

Yes we should and the first thing on the agenda is to go for a ride!

I had no idea that my wife has a like minded younger sister that lives in the UK. Spot on observations

Interesting point of view. I like cycling too, and joke about getting new bikes. But a new bike a year? That does seem excessive, unless he’s very well-off.

I have some bike jerseys but I usually wear running shirts on training rides and bike commutes, not Lycra. As for the shorts, I wear thinner tri shorts, mostly because road bike shorts feel like adult diapers to me. I’ve learned from experience that some sort of bike short is almost necessary when riding for more than 10 minutes or so, because of chafing issues.

The other stuff? Well, he doesn’t really need them to ride and train. Even for racing, some of those items only help if you are really fast and you are competitive in races. I hope he doesn’t bankrupt himself or drive away his wife.

He does need to shed a few lbs. if he wants to live the dream. She, by contrast, might look very nice in some stretchy “kit.”

So, at what age does one become an EMIL?

I prefer the term OFIL myself. Old Fart I Lycra. The wife agrees and often tells me I look OFEL. I was feeling middle aged until I read the part where he was only 41. 41 is middle aged? I had not even gotten around to having kids with the wifey when I was 41…..

41 isn’t middle aged? How long do you plan on living?

Don’t misunderstand Dismal’s comment to indicate that his attire is any more stylish.

I strongly suspect his author wife picked the most objectionable item.

And we’re half-past the time we have to do it in. Middle-aged.

Of course you have achieved middle age when the one thing you want to do is ~ take a nap.
