I know a bike fit, especially for me, is paramount. With arthritis in my spine and a history of IT band syndrome, it’s without question I need to have my bike fit. I have a session with Clovis at Freshbikes scheduled.
My question is whether I need to spend the extra $100 for the “3D” fit vs. the “2D” fit. Clovis made a good case for it while I was talking to him, saying they get deeper in to physical issues of the rider. I’m just not a professional athlete, never will be, and probably won’t ever try to race. Do I really need the upgraded fit as a casual rider?
With your history go for the 3D. Don’t go on a weekend because he is constantly being interrupted and usually has appts back-to-back. Go in the evening or during a weekday if at all possible.

ParticipantGood that you’re having this done. I know it is expensive. I’ve sent 10 or 12 people to see Clovis for fitting and so far I’ve heard nothing but positive feedback. I’ve been doing this stuff for a long time and I learned a lot from my session with him. I’m actually due to go back and let him have another look. I haven’t had a session with him in 35,000 miles.

So… 6 months since you’ve seen him? hah
Great, thanks for the input, both of you. It really does seem like a no-brainer. $100 more just to prevent further pain or any injuries on top of what I have going on… I’d spend a lot more than $100 (medical bills last year were more than the miles you haven’t seen him in, Dirt! good thing I have great insurance…)
Great Liz, thanks for that! I have it scheduled for a Thursday evening. He did mention that he gets swamped on the weekends. Having absolutely no social life (other than my son), spending 3 hours in a candy store, er .. bike shop, will be amazingly fun compared to my usual evenings

FYI: Revolution in Clarendon also does professional bike fits but they use an outside crew of people trained in physical therapy and a different style of fitting. You may wish to talk to them before making a final decision on Clovis who has the biking background but may not have the medical expertise. I’ve only read up on what Revolution offers on their website and don’t have any first hand experience.
