Vicegrip
ParticipantWorry not Vicegrip will forge and present the Golden Nugget for the 1/1/17 longest ride. Ride info rider and date carefully embossed in a fully depleted post transitional metal that is then encased in 1 or 2 layers of the finest aerosolized pigments and binders in a golden tone.
Alas, There is but one FS saddle bag that is presented by the previous holder of the golden nugget the the next Nugget holder. The saddle bag* is required to keep the (somewhat) coveted Golden Nugget* safe and secure while riding during Freezing Saddles.
*At 14 pounds the density is Light Weight in relation to many of the higher number elements, more aero than most puppies and yes, it is in fact good FS form to bring them both a long on all rides**
** Unless you are on my team that is.

ParticipantFor a couple of reasons from Strava punking out for a day or 3 and Jan 1 being in the previous week (and my being a bit lazy perhaps) I am having a hard time figuring out for sure who did the longest 1/1/17 ride. The forge is hot and I have been prying wheel weights from bike lane blocking cars all week and only need the details before casting the Golden Nugget.

ParticipantDido, I think I count 4 people who get a free beer! But if you could respond here with your name and distance that would be [emoji106]

ParticipantI believe I can see the rides on Strava. This is what I see:
Anthony N – 100.3
Bob J – 100.6
Andrew S – 101.3
Robyne M – 104.9That would make Robyne the recipient of the nugget. And all 4 the recipients of the beer.

ParticipantWell OK then Looks like Robyne M is the winner! Will cast the nugget today and emboss it Sunday. Is Robyne M active here? I ask as I want to know if a full name would be prefered or with the above name and ride data.

ParticipantHey Vicegrip! If it’s not too late, you may want to check Andrew S. Strava rides on 1/1. While his longest ride was 101.3, he has 2 other rides which give him a total of 105.8 for 1/1, more miles than I rode that day. Also, I’m a returning FS participant and I thought that this award was designated for newbs … is this where we kick off a series of rule debates? :p Anyway, if you’re forging my name on the GN, use my full name Robyne McRey.

ParticipantEric made up the part about it being for rookies only. I participated in 2014 and received a golden nugget for 2015. I think total miles for the day should get it. It seems arbitrary to exclude someone because he shut off Strava instead of leaving the meter running. In randonneuring, riders are allowed to take breaks as long as the average speed (based on time elapsed) doesn’t fall below 10mph. Kurt might want to consider something like that as a criteria.

There are actually two Golden Nuggets, one for longest ride, the other for longest ride by a newbie.

Hi, Thanks for chiming in! Based on past years the longest ride is for a ride rather than a day. I am but the hairy armed guy with well worn wood handled tools forging metal into things. I don’t want to be the arbiter of details. 1. This award is not n00b only it is for the longest ride on 1/1/17 n00b or seasoned pro. 2. Per Strava you rode the longest ride. 3. If the powers that be see otherwise they need to speak up before 8 am Sunday as that is when the ingot will be proudly embossed “Robyne McRey” with date and distance.

I may have said something misleading but never meant to imply it was only for newbs! Simple that I still have davids budget that I awarded the newb budget from last year. If I ever see him again he’ll be sure to get it.
Also, I think the longest ride was a newb by coincidence so… double win!
