YAAAA (Yet Another Another Another Accident) at Rosslyn, Lee Hwy/Fort Myer/Custis

As RestonDC noted, there was yet another cyclist struck at the Rosslyn intersection at Lee Hwy/Lynn/Custis/Mt.Vernon at around 6pm tonight. I rolled through about a minute after it happened. The driver of a grey SUV had stopped in N. Lynn, and people were helping the cyclist who was sitting on the grass. Fire trucks were just arriving from all directions when I rode through.
On twitter tonight, the cyclist tweeted: “SUV ran the red light, got me in the crosswalk. I did not stick the landing. Driver was cited, at fault” Then afterwards, when asked if he was okay: “some free frequent flier miles and some cuts and bruises but everything else checks out so far. (1/2)” and then “thanks for asking. (2/2)” (I’d never met this person before – the magic of social media I guess)
I am relieved that the guy is okay, and I hope we can find a way to make that intersection safer. Ride safe out there!
On a much happier note, it was great to catch up with many of you at the Happy Hour tonight!
