ParticipantThe Versa brifter is designed specifically for IGHs, as is a bar end shifter from JTek. Neither are Shimano companies. I assume both are available without complete bicycles attached. All I know, I know from Google.

I think the pull distances between IGHs and a comparable-cog derailleur system are different. But what do I know? I’m just making this stuff up.
eggs-actly. Shifters for the multitude of different-numbers-of-gears are specific to each IG hub. So, Shimano 8spd is different from Sturmey Archer 8spd is different from SRAM (Sachs). Some hubs require different pull lengths depending on the shift, too.
But that Alfine stuff is niiiiiiice, so if i were to recommend anything to anyone it’d be just bite the bullet and run the full Alfine mini-gruposan.

ParticipantOK, gotcha. Yeah, Di2 seems to be the elegant solution here!

Participantand not to completely hijack the thread, but what would be really neat is if somebody figured out how to hack the Di2 motor to work with any cable actuated IGH, boy-howdy, that’d be cool.

at that point, with an IGH that can be shifted basically at any time, it would be stupid not to also rig up automatic shifting.

ParticipantThe Raleigh RXS is belt drive with disc brakes.
Not sure if it can do a IGH but someone has done so on a similar older model Raleigh http://www.bikeforums.net/recreational-cyclocross-gravelbiking/854604-1000-mile-review-raleigh-twin-six-belt-drive-igh-cx.html
Also, check out these – quite a few options listed. Van Dessel WTF (2nd generation), Soma Wolverine

The blurb I saw suggested that the RXS didn’t have any cable stops/guides for shifting cables. Though SRAM wireless is right around the corner, right?

Ohh yeah. And no bottle cage mounts either. (The person in the bikeforums.net page used zipties and Alfine for their build.)
I think there’s a Tout Terrain belt-drive/IGH/drop bar/disc brake model listed on the joe-bike page too. Probably big bucks though. Looking around a bit more I think I like the Soma Wolverine (that phatboing already mentioned) the best.

ParticipantI think that tout terrain was around 3800 last I checked.
EDIT: Joe-bike lists the Tout Terrain Metropolitan as starting at $2600 and maxing out at $6000 with a sweet spot around $4000. GULP.

Yet another orange bike that came out at the wrong time (for me).

Same here!! I looked at the Soma Double Cross Disc as an option before I bought my Kona Jake (which then changed to orange the following year – Jake the Snake was orange in my model year but wasn’t disc braked). And then the All-City Macho Man Disc came out. And now this… yeeeah.
That said, the 2015 Super Jake has orange accents…

If anyone out there can chime in, since I am still confused as to what causes the compatibility issues. What makes the versa vrs-8 shifter/brakes so special that they can work with this hub and belt drive? From doing some quick searching on them, they dont appear to be the best product out there, but somehow magically work with this belt/drop bar/igh/disc brake setup.
