First time in a long time I was able to ride IN with shorts and a t-shirt, and ride home with shorts and a t-shirt. It was so nice out, I stopped to move yet another downed tree off the CCT.

Sweated like a beast yesterday on the way in, will definitely check the weather from now on.

Been fighting a cold all week, today was my first day riding this week. Glad I made it in. What a gorgeous day!

Now, let’s hope I didn’t exacerbate my cold.

I’m sure you all had an awesome commute yesterday but I had the day off and went for a 65 mile fun ride instead. This was my first time stopping at Carolina Brothers and I was pleasantly surprised. For the trip back home, I had a full stomach and the wind at my back. I stopped at the Italian Store just off the Custis trail to pick up some pizza slices for dinner, but I don’t think they would have fit in my handlebar bag very well.

    MAC AND CHEESE!

You sound like my kind of rider! I’ve recently thought about how much fun it would be to try to hit all of the 7-Elevens in the area and try to eat donuts at each one. Maybe some sort of hybrid alley-cat race/eating competition?

Can you dress up like homer simpson when you do this?

Riders must stop at the two checkpoint stations (donut stops). Donut consumption is not mandatory, however, a five minute bonus is awarded for each donut consumed and recorded.

We need one of these. I would fall off the wagon in such an epic way that Rapha would have to make my elastic-waist sweat pants.

I’d be in. I think I like eating more than cycling.

Do we have donut shops here? Would we be forced to do something with cupcakes instead (ugh)

    ok, here we go:

Toby’s Homemade Ice Cream & Coffee
    Northside Social Coffee & Wine
    Migue’s Magnificent Mini Donuts
    Heller’s Bakery
    Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe

Okay, that’s cool, but maybe we do it in the reverse and end up at the Westover Beer Garden? I love donuts and whatnot, but not as much as I love beer.

I suppose DC really demands a Tour de Cupcake… versus Arlington’s Tour de Fro-yo, Cupcakes, Burgers, and Pizza.

I am thinking a multi-stage, regional Tour de Waistline that would include all the above

This should become part of Bikefest. It’s quirky and fun, family friendly, significant other friendly, and it’s good public relations.

My first thought was Mr. Kelley and a skewer of donuts and me turning green after the second one. But there’s a lot to be said for this now that I think about it. Good donut shops tend to be small independent businesses, we’re happy to support them. Photographs of cyclists eating donuts counters the negative images we sometimes are associated with. And it shows we can take a joke in stride, even be part of the joke.

    Happy Crumb Picking Trails,
    Ann
