Women’s bike seats

My wife tried the Selle Italia Lady Gel Flow (sounds like another type of feminine product IMO…) and the Terry Butterfly and preferred the Terry. I can’t figure out why, I think they’re identical. The correct answer is “because she said so”.

Beats me, there’s an “S” squiggle marking on it and the words “bodygeometry.” My approach was to go into the shop, talk to one of the women who worked there, and ask a lot of questions. I think I got down to three choices in my size and then looked at the pricing. The brand names are unfamiliar to me, probably a good thing. It’s worked out fine, I rode more than 80 miles over the holiday weekend and have no complaints.

Depending on the geometry of how you have your bike set up, both me and a female friend of mine have done 80-100 mile rides on this seat with good results. They make it in two different widths to suit various body types.

Most guys probably have little sympathy for women’s bike seat issues.

Saddle comfort is so individual. I’m loving my Terry FLX on my road bike. But its not for everybody or every body I should say. Its relatively small (both short and narrow saddle) and firm. Terry has a good selection of women’s saddles and I believe they guarantee them (like it or return it).

Like GreyBear said, the bottom line (so to speak) is that you can only know what seat is best by trying it. And it may or may not be a woman-specific design.

The link Tim posted is showing as “out-of-stock” on the Specialized site. I think it’s because Specialized has changed the models they offer, and that exact saddle may not be available any more. But if you go through the website menu, or through a Specialized dealer, there are three TriTip Gel models: Comp, Expert, and Team. I’ll probably go for the Comp. (Save $25, dealer says the difference is chro-moly rails instead of titanium.)
