W&OD Trail obstacle in East Falls Church

On Sunday afternoon (Sept. 9) there was a tree down across the W&OD Trail at mile marker 5, next to the soccer field in Benjamin Banneker Park in Arlington. The eastbound lane of the trail was completely blocked; bikes could get by on the very edge of the westbound side. The tree had split at the trunk, and the canopy had fallen across the trail. Be careful passing through this area, between the wooden bridge and the Sycamore Road underpass.

The tree was still there this morning. At least everyone seemed to be looking out for each other this morning, so no collisions or issues near the obstruction.
