It took a long time to get my lazy a$$ moving. I rode out to Lake Fairfax but didn’t arrive until after 2. Saw cannon jr. ride and had a chance to say hello to Dread, GB, rcannon and MattAune.
This was the first time I have watched this “sport.” The cyclocross thingy looks compellingly insane.

I went for the morning and saw tons of our forum folks. My favorite place to watch was at the bottom of the chute, where the riders come down a hill (with stairs going up) on a switchback and then have to negotiate a very muddy path with some turns. Lots of action there. ;-). It was especially fun watching that with Culimerc, who provided encouragement to the riders and helpful commentary (for them and me), and who seemed to know practically every adult rider in the competition. The whole event was loads of fun and had a great mix of people of all ages and genders participating. Some of the munchkins, tweens and teenagers (including a lot of girls in all age groups) were amazingly good on the course. Another big highlight was seeing Sean C. right after his awesome podium finish in big field of riders. Congrats Sean! It was great day at the races. I wish I could have stayed longer. (Also spotted Bobco85 at Trader Joe’s later in the day, who was shopping by bike. :))

Also, there’s a Bikenetics cyclocross race coming up next weekend at Occoquan. That might be the last local one of the season.

To coordinate with my GF who planned to race, I ended up driving. Good since riding home on this bike afterwards would have been tough.

I was there until about 1:30 and camped out near the top of the chute for a while (there was a FIRE!) and then back down to the bottom of the chute to watch the muddy wipe outs (I was the girl with the two Shibas if anyone saw me).

It was an awesome day of racing and spectating (spectating on my part, I will stick to mountain bike racing!).

Hope to see some of you guys out at the Bikenetic race next weekend!

It was nice running into you! I will have to come to the Bikenetics cyclocross race next weekend to watch the fun. What is the time/place for the race?

During the Men 3/4, there was a member of NCVC that ran the chute, came flying down the hill, tried to take the tight inside line at the bottom, caught his front wheel on the bails of hay ~ and spun 360! Everyone gasped and took one step forward toward him to help ~ and he got right back up, dug his bike out of the mud, and kept going. Totally badass.

The Chute was clearing THE SCENE of the race. Someone should have been at the end of it with beer handouts for anyone who actually made it all the way through the mud.

I’m pretty sure I’ve insisted on petting your dogs at the races this season at least once… one is more people-friendly than the other if I remember correctly. They are adorable and challenge Bernie for best race dog.

I recognize that bike (I think that the mud helps)- crazy bars… You started right in front of me in Masters.

The two, combined, present a good challenge. I don’t know that anyone will ever top the Bern.

Those are Jones bars I used. Jones Bars are not so crazy nor uncommon, there was a second rider in our race with them. Joe started on a fat bike with them. He did pit and pulled out a normal CX bike after the first lap. CX bikes with narrow tires are so better in such mud, able to cut down and get traction unlike 29ers or fat bikes that tend to float above the more solid soil.

I’m so glad that I clicked your link- I was just a few riders behind you on the chute and the photographer told me to yell:

    He just earned $7…
