I am looking for suggestions on how to best get form the WO&D to the start finish of the Capital CX? Usually I ride up Difficult Run and such, but to save time, was considering going up Hunter Mills Rd.

Or just ride with Pete from Falls Church. He is leading the Bikenetic Shop ride this week to the race. I’m sure he’ll post details shortly ….

ParticipantThe one year I went I rode up Wiehle rather than Hunter Mill. Seemed like the safer option, since it has four lanes and better sightlines. I had no issues riding it in either direction.

ParticipantI’d stick to WOD to the Ice Rink after Wiehle then drop down the singletrack. Not much of a savings to do Hunter Mill and it will be largely uphill.

I had thought about that but every time I go in the trails I get a bit lost. Only ridden there four or so times.

ParticipantEasiest road route:
W&OD to Wiehle. Head towards Baron Cameron. Its a 4 lane road, but generally lightly trafficked and reasonably bike friendly. The light before Baron Cameron is North Shore Drive, turn right. It Ts on Ring Road, turn right. Loop around and make a right on Hunt Club Rd (watch for it, because its easy to miss), which takes you to the top of Lake Fairfax Drive. Turn right, and it takes you right into the park.

W&OD to Michael Faraday Ct (Ice Rink). Enter the trail in the corner. Follow the doubletrack down the hill, ignoring the side trails. After crossing the creek at the bottom, stay left, which will dump you at the bottom of the campground gravel roads. Follow those out to the main sports field road, take that around towards the main entrance of the park. The race in years past has been under the dam near the main entrance buildings.

Sweet. I should be there in my Potomac Velo Kit and weirdo bike with Jones bars. Doing the 3/4/5 35 plus at 9.

ParticipantI’m driving, but will see ya’ll there tomorrow morning. This is such a fun event to watch with lots of great folks to cheer on. I’m bringing my “good” cowbell for this one.
In case anyone wants to check it out and needs last minute info, it’s at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston and the first race starts at 8:15 a.m.

ParticipantThe Kid’s race is at 2 pm. Matt Aune is riding a broken bike with only one gear at 1 pm.
The Kid’s puppy and the Aune puppy have a little wager for fastest lap by their human. The stakes:

It is going to be windy and muddy. Perfect CX weather (says a guy who isnt riding)
Oh, and after the kids race, some undefined time, we will head back to N Arlington – I can always throw a bike on the rack and you can hitch a ride back.

ParticipantI’ve been looking all over and can’t find the race schedule, only the registrations page. Does anyone know where the schedule is posted?
