ParticipantCame through at 2:30 am. Reston to Tysons today. Trail’s sloppy but certainly clear, although there are some spots where there are big fields of slop washed into the trail. Hunter Mill Road is barricaded and taped off at the trail, but the trail goes through. Looks like the water made it over the trail at Difficult Run, one of the whoop de doo’s is almost washed out. Streams are back in their banks.
Big gravel field at Hunter Mill and the trail, be careful as it’s a tire sucking mess. Other than that certainly doable. Park & Ride at Reston drained but still full of cars – or are they now 4 wheeled aquariums now?

but we’re happier. I saw so many cars stuck in traffics everywhere. Today commute took only 5 minutes longer than a normal day commute.
I agree. I still averaged almost 16mph for the ride and the trail was pretty much a 2″-6″ river the entire way.

ParticipantHad a similar story here. Had to carry the bike across a few waist-deep areas, but arrived maybe 5 minutes later than usual. No big deal.
Everyone I know was stuck in traffic. And they call US crazy!?

Is that a technical term?
Yeah
If you know the area, you know when you come up to the bridge there are two rolling dips about 5′ deep about 50′ apart. They’re perfect for scrubbing your speed if you’re westbound before you hit the hill toward Hunter Mill

ParticipantI love uneventful post-apocalyptic commutes to work.
BRING ON THE ZOMBIES!!!!

ParticipantI’m OK with Zombies. Just as long as this stops before we get to “Slaying of the First Born”! Traffic in Chantilly was a mess yesterday, with RT28 S being at a full stop backing up onto all the neighboring roads. Drivers must’ve been thinking “that guy is nuts!”…”but he’s moving and I am not.”
The flood pictures make the 2″ of water I rode through on the W&OD between Grant & Ferndale in Herndon trivial.

ParticipantThis is an interesting video I found on YouTube. Based on the audio, I think it is at Banneker Park, a bit south of the EFC Metro. There is a wooden bridge over a creek here that is part of the W&OD. Many people bypass that though and continue riding through the park until Van Buren Street up to 19th Road and pick up the trail near where Lee Hwy hits 66.

ParticipantYikes!
At least the rain has finally moved off. The weather was really nice on Sunday morning.

ParticipantI rode the W&OD from the beginning in Shirlington to Carolina’s Pit BBQ in Ashburn yesterday, and the trail was pretty good. Only a handful of places with gravel on the road, and two places where the edge of the trail was washed out and they had one lane blocked.
