I thought we were worried about exceeding capacity on Metro and not being able to expand in the core. Isn’t this a GOOD thing? I mean, no surprise that they can’t manage a budget. And also, as someone who just purchased a house in DC, anyone concerned about Washington real estate is either calling the outer suburbs “Washington” or is completely insane.

I love that not on the list of possible causes of ridership decline is that fact that riding WMATA is so miserable that riders would pretty much rather ride a tortoise to work that ride WMATA. I am on a bus line that is so irregular I normally just walk it. The subway service ranges from an unpleasant sardine can – to surly WMATA staff. Security theater doesnt help. And there solution always somehow involves raising prices – defying even high school economics (what?!?!? You mean raising prices can result is LESS revenue – but how’s that possible????).

I love how it’s always someone or something else’s fault when it comes to Metro. Of course these were the same folks who refused to cover outdoor escalators until 2004 citing cost concerns and then after covering them, applauding themselves for cost savings. They make all the rest of local government seem eons ahead in competency.

rise in teleworking, increased alternative work schedules, more bike commuters

All good things! There’s definitely more of all these with the groups of people I work with.

The inserted reference to real estate seems a bit like WaPo clickbait.

Also, WMATA fare pricing is so annoying complicated.
