ParticipantBut the Washington Post Capital Weather Gang thinks 1-3″ of snow is more likely.

ParticipantUnlike most storms, this will likely dump more snow to the south than the north. Central and SW Virginia could expect about a foot.
With ground temps so warm, I wouldn’t expect much accumulation. Unless it comes all at once like it did 2 years ago. Hopefully we will not see Jim Cantore in DC, because they always send him to the places that are likely to experience the worst of it. He’s like some weather demon or something.

ParticipantLooks like I need to take the southern route to work.
From the hourly view, it looks like Friday morning is when we’ll actually have something to ride through. Coffee club might be fluffy! We can only hope.

ParticipantAt the risk of courting disaster, I say BRING IT ON.

ParticipantI’m just looking forward to riding the fat bike in conditions for which it was actually designed.

ParticipantCWG seems to think the forecast is overdone. We shall see…
The crappy thing is that we were planning an impromtu trip down to Charlottesville on Friday morning for a weekend away and then this happens. They’re looking at a possible 4-8 inches and I’d bet they have less snow equipment there than we do.

ParticipantYESSSSSSSSSS!
Only problem is I don’t know what bike to ride tomorrow. I was just going to ride my single speed all week but 700×25 slicks probably aren’t the best bet for tomorrow. But the old MTB with studded tires will probably be overkill.

ParticipantI’m actually more concerned about the Low of 13 (!!) High of 30 forecast for Tuesday. Sweet jeebus that’s cold. Colder than any day last year, if I’m not mistaken.

Participantto ride home with the GoPro!

You don’t have a pair of cyclocross tires you could throw on the single speed? That would probably be what you’ll need.
I don’t race ‘cross, but I like having a set of tires around for winter and any long off-road rides I may do.

I have a few pairs actually, but I fear the single speed may be geared a bit high for slushy hills. Also I’m lazy and don’t want to change tires for just one or two days. (And I don’t really want to get salt/snow in my CX drivetrain otherwise I’d just ride my CX bike).
First world problems. Solution: obviously I need another bike, with a belt drive.
I will probably just lug out the old MTB if the forecast is serious. The studded tires are already mounted on wheels (I never want to mount those tires again) and the drivetrain is already rusty.

ParticipantGoing to ride the 29er in if this holds true. I don’t think even 32c tires would be okay… we’ll see day of. I can’t wait.
