I have a similar issue: I am showing as “Eric” instead of “Eric P” I thought I knew who i was, but now I’m not sure. I guess if all of the other Eric’s have a last initial, it is ok, but in case this is a symptom of a larger problem I thought you should know. Thanks

It looks like the first to register gets the unadorned name. I can change yours to Eric P now though.

God bless @obscurerichard for taking this on. He’s spending an incredible amount of time, night/day/weekend on all of this. I am completely swamped at work, so I have absolutely zero regrets for stepping away from this madness :) — Except that I feel bad for Richard (especially where lack of documentation etc. adds to the learning curve of the current software). A lot of external deps changed this year, though — changes to Strava authorization being particularly significant and disappearance of wunderground for weather data. So this is no small effort. And, of course, he’s doing this almost completely alone.

If you don’t mind, that would be great. And a million thanks for all that you are doing!

I finally got my dev environment working yesterday, so I’ll be helping a bit more from here on out, but not nearly as much as I’d like to. As always, anyone with coding experience (Especially Python) is very welcome to help out with the website and backend.

One of the downsides of being obscure.

Indeed, toiling in obscurity can be thankless. But I am feeling the love from this group, so it’s worth it.

I understand your feelings of guilt, but don’t sweat it – it’s healthy for the software to get some other hands working on it. I only wish I’d had time to start a bit earlier and had not banged my head against some problems that I could probably have resolved with 2 minutes of your help.

Weather Underground going away is still a problem that we’re tracking. They have put off turning off their APIs but unless we can get one of the alternatives going soon the weather-related leaderboards and stats are not going to work reliably.

It seems to be easier to get current data than historical data for free.

It’s done, you are now “Eric P” on the leaderboard.

The People list seems to reset early. When I refreshed it at 10:45 pm, everyone who had ridden every day was showing as yellow.

Nice catch! I verified that and we’re tracking the issue in GitHub (freezing-web #77). See the issue for a screenshot and more details about the problem.

We have 326 members of the Freezing Saddles 2019 Strava club. We have only 166 people showing up on the leaderboards. This suggests that about half of you have not followed the instructions either in the original post in this thread, or in the e-mail I sent to all registrants. I would strongly suggest to all of you that you fix this problem ASAP, or we’re going to have chaos once team assignments are made.

It took me several attempts to de-authorize and re-authorize Strava before I got it to take. Even among those who have followed all the instructions, many may not have that level of persistence. Or may not realize–it took me a couple of days to–that my original authorization got broken somehow.

One must not only follow the instructions, but may have to follow the instructions more than once. I wouldn’t be surprised if some have tried their best and given up.

Given that almost 50% are missing suggests to me that the problem lies not with the people, but with something else. When 1/2 of a group of highly educated and capable people are unable to accomplish a task, it means there is problem with the task, not the people. If it were 4% or 8%, one could point the finger at those people, but when it’s 50%, that means something entirely different.

In fact, under settings in my Strava, it showed Freezing Saddles as an authorized app (for years, in fact) and I was still not on the leaderboard.
