So you know how a lot of people on the forum here have a hard time recognizing each other when we’re out and about on the trails? (Well, besides Dirt and 1/8th…)

The BikeArlington jersey or the reflective pants straps we give out are good clues sometimes, but wouldn’t it be neat if we had a specific jersey/kit for the Washington Area Bike Forum? That way you’d know for sure it’s a forum member when you see someone going the opposite direction.

So what do you think? Does this sound like a good idea?

Anyone want to take on heading up this project? I’ve got some contacts at the company who does the BA jerseys, which I think are pretty good quality and not overly expensive, that I could pass along and would be happy to help coordinate with.

You MD riders are great. Until you get behind the wheel of a car with MD plates, then you’re my worst nightmare.

Ha ha! And I sent a Bike Arlington (Virginia) backpack to my niece, who is a student at University of Texas Arlington.

I’ve been there, and the campus is fine, but the rest of the town didn’t seem too bike friendly. Although it is all relative, I suppose. If they came up with a logo they are ahead of 90% of the municipalities there.

Hmmm….looks like the “I Biked in Arlington” sticker I got on B2WD that’s branded with BikeArlington.com, but that’s blue.

I think we need to agree on an item we all use, something that is quick to spot, non-gender specific, and reasonably priced. Regardless of how we ride and what we wear the one thing we all have in common is that we own bicycles, and I would safely say the majority of us use water bottles. If not, you should…. dehydration is no joke, and it can happen in the winter as well as the summer. What about a very specific and unusual color for a water bottle with the BA logo on it? These are really easy to spot, especially in bright pink or yellow! They are cheap so you could buy as many as you like, you could even buy a bunch and give them out. When you are being passed or crossing paths with someone, spotting a hat or socks or even the writing on a jersey can be difficult… but a super bright water bottle will be a beacon. And hey, if someone just happens to have the same colored bottle it’s a great chance to talk to them about BA and WABA.

    Just a thought.

My only hesitation about water bottles as that they’re easily transferable and non-permanent. I have bottles where I honestly don’t know where I got them from. I don’t use the same bottles all the time – they float from bike to bag to desk to car. I get free ones all the time. And through severe weather, hot and cold, I rarely use one that’s not insulated. I think – I could be wrong – that we’re trying to create something of a semi-indelible mark to ID other forumites. Bottles – for me – wouldn’t do that.

Agreed, but judging by this thread finding an article of clothing for everyone to wear might be tough. Perhaps re-focussing on the sentiment and purpose of said indelible mark might help. I for one wear a different jersey each day of the week, so for me I change jerseys far more than bottles and bike accessories, but again that’s just me. I love this idea though… we could all get tattooed! Now that would be epic and a real commitment.

How about a messenger bag reflective “tail” with the Bike Arlington logo? It could be hung from a bag, backpack, panniers, seatbag or saddle.

It could be a small one or a big one.

BA has given out water bottles for about two years now. I believe they are translucent Trek bottles with either yellow or black tops and the BA log in dark yellow – I have two.

I have too many water bottles, but I do like those Trek ones.

Some kind of reflective tail might work. Hang a few off a helmet for a mullet style.

I’m feeling more and more like buttons are the way to go – dirt cheap (no offense to Dirt), water resistant, light weight and easy to attach to various items you might have on your self or on a bike: panniers, backpack, seat bag…

    Cafepress http://www.cafepress.com/

Upload a logo to a store, and put the logo on anything (everything) and just let the purpose purchasing decide. Buttons. Patches. Shirts. Whatever.

What if we all change our profile picture to a head shot with helmet. At least we’ll be able to identify some members. I know to look for a clown for Certifried.
