What about a technical t-shirt or polo shirt?

I second this motion – something like the shirts with UPF protection built in. I’m a fan of the LL Bean Timberledge shirts for my commute.

Although I think the jerseys look nice, I consider it an act of kindness to my fellow MUP users to NOT wear jerseys. I’ve said it once, I’ll say it a thousand times – you don’t get a body like this overnight.

I rummaged around bikearlington.com for a bit trying to find the jersey order page… no luck. Anyone have a link?

We aren’t set up to do processing and shipping. They are available at Revolution Cycles in Clarendon and City Hub in Crystal City. Lots of available sizes, so you can try them on.

Me, too. I don’t like elastic hem jerseys so I had the tailor take the elastic out of my Bike Arlington jersey’s hem. Since then, I learned that Mt. Borah offers a women’s cut without an elastic hem (hint! hint!).

What do other women think of elastic in the hem of cycling jerseys? It’s a complete non-starter for me, but I realize we come in all shapes and sizes.

My favorite jersey brands for my, um, classic female shape are Twin Six, Terry and Rapha (women’s cut all). I have learned by trail and error and had to get rid of some that just didn’t work out. Expensive mistakes.

Not a big fan of the elastic hem. Rapha fits like a glove, and I have Twin Six in the crosshairs for a future purchase. I have custom team jerseys from Sugoi and Champion Systems, and they’re both fine (no elastic). I’ve always been someone who buys her clothes at least 1 size too big, but I’m finding for jerseys the more form-fitting the better. When I load up the pockets with stuff – which as I ride longer and longer, I’ve been doing more and more – the looser the jersey is, the more the stuff sags down and jostles around. I’m actually looking at the higher end, über Euro cut stuff if the team orders again. I’m probably in the minority there, though.

That said, for commuting when the issue of back pockets is moot, I wear my technical running tees all the time. Can’t ever have too many of those. And I’d be more inclined to ID myself with the forum by something on my bike, b/c then it’s always there. I switch out bags and helmets too much.

Are there any graphic designers out there?

What if we start with a logo, then we can slap it on a jersey, jacket, socks, “bike-bumper-stickers” (think 1/2″ x 6″ stickers that can go on your top tube or on the back of your helmet) or even waterproof bags?

Even though I’m of the ratty-tshirt riding style for my daily commute, I might spring for a forum jersey if the price point wasn’t too far off the $60-$80 mark.
I like the idea of the cycling cap too.

I dont tend to wear ankle bands, but If its something that I could loop around my messenger bag shoulder strap (or for those with backpacks, something similar) – it might work. I sport my TFTS button on the back of my messenger, but have yet to see anyone outside of fridaycoffeeclub who does/has the same.

TIL: You don’t have to pony up the $500 lifetime member fee to get your hands on a WABA jersey:

Looks like the 2012 reddit jerseys aren’t in stock anymore. There may be another run sometime soon?

I’d like to get my hands on some really obscure jerseys – like Solar Turbines or Green Flash Brewing / Smuttynose Beer.

A stencil so we can tag our bike stuff (and orange traffic cones that we throw behind jersey barriers). We’ll call it Bikesy.

    Or Cranksy, perhaps?

Wow, I really thought I was making that up (though I was thinking of Banksy, of course).

    Here’s a jersey I like . . .

More seriously, the discussion inspires a couple of points:

    1) Managing a custom jersey order is expensive and time consuming. I’ve done it twice, now – never again. I say that mostly in the hope that folks will moderate expectations/demands for what they want (if there is one). $80 is cheap, considering.

    2) Pearl Izumi? Primal? Oh, my children, there are so many better things out there in the world . . . As with bikes, you tend to get what you pay for. If you’ve got the dosh, try something from Castelli or Hincapie’s mid-lines. Pactimo’s jerseys are great, too.

There is no evidence (nor do we want any evidence) that a forum member ever threw a traffic cone behind a jersey barrier!

Hmm. There was a single orange cone in the middle of 66 by vienna this afternoon. I wonder if it migrated.

Couldn’t agree more on both counts- I’m managing a Pactimo order for my grad school alumni and pulling from previous lessons learned we went with the highest end kit and took a volume hit by sticking to our guns on pre-payment, style variety and art- you had 1 chance on art input during a defined period and the kit was one style (bibs and full zip jersey) but in whatever size you needed. Don’t like it? Get yer own order together…

I would definitely be interested in a forum-specific jersey. I’d love to see it peppered with humorous, snarky comments from forum members :) Maybe we could have a contest for the most satiric/ironic/sardonic jersey slogan.

I also second Mark Blacknell’s suggestion of going with a higher quality jersey. If it is a nicer jersey I will be more inclined to wear it…a mediocre one may just sit in the closet, so why save a few bucks on something you won’t wear. I have a Voler jersey that is pretty nice, and a Santini that is very high quality (but kind of scratchy). I’d love a jersey with and MP3 pocket…just sayin’

The People’s Department of Transportation has been actively monitoring the Greenbelt Metro Drive roundabout construction site. I’m thinking none of the construction guys has ever ridding a bike — just terrible the unmarked crap they’re leaving in the bike lanes.
