ParticipantTim,
Thanks for thinking about this. The idea of having something identifiable is a good one, but I think a kit might be too much. We already have the jerseys.
I’d be much more interested in something smaller like a special easily seen and identifiable reflective band that could be attached to the back of the bike, seatpost, or a backpack or ankle – like the Bikearlington band, but in a less usually seen color. Maybe turquoise?
An item like this could also be moved from bike to bike, backpack to pannier, etc., and visible even in winter when jackets are needed. I have to admit that it would be wonderful to see other forum readers when I’m riding alone in the dark on cold winter nights.
That would also make it more inclusive because many of us wear non-kit clothing for our everyday riding.

ParticipantI’m still hoping “Love your commute” swag will appear for sale somewhere, benefiting BA/WABA/re-education of NPS

ParticipantIt all will come down to the colors and design on the jersey for me really. But if it looks nice I’m always up for a new (relatively inexpensive) jersey.
A-Rider is right too though because riding around the area doing errands or on my commute I try to wear my oldest, rattiest t-shirts in an attempt to finally kill them off and so as not to look like a flashy cyclist with $$ while riding in SE.

ParticipantThis reminds me that I need to pick up a BA jersey (where’s the best place to get one?)…but I agree with Kathy that I’d prefer something smaller than a jersey for the forum-specific identifier. Something like socks or a cycling cap would be pretty cool. I’d definitely pick up either a BA cap or a BA Forums cap for sure….

Revolution Cycles in Clarendon or City Hub in Crystal City carry them.

+1 I can never have enough socks. Also a small (seat-tube sized) sticker would be cool. I’d sport that for sure.

ParticipantI’d buy one, but wouldn’t wear it around locally too much probably. I wouldn’t mind “representing” outside the area, but when I’m just riding around here I grab whatever is next on the stack.

ParticipantI don’t wear cycling caps or cycling socks, so my personal preference would be to have something that could be seen easily from behind regardless of what I’m wearing in any given season of the year.
For a primary forum identifier, I’d especially like something very portable that could be used in many ways, and reflective to make it visible at night. A distinctive color would be important.
However, other things like jerseys/kits, caps and socks could also be offered. (A cap would only be visible when not wearing a helmet, and socks may not be visible in winter.)

ParticipantI’d be all over a forum jersey – as long as it incorporates the studly combo of colors known as plush purple and aquatic melon. Seriously though, great idea.

ParticipantI’d prefer a jersey actually although I’ve held off on getting a BA jersey as they’re expensive by my standards, and I doubt a Washington one would come in any cheaper (although I’d still consider it if I liked the design). I like the WABA jersey design better than BA, although the BA is very recognizable. I don’t really wear caps while riding and I’m fussier about what socks I wear (for comfort), and details on reflective bands or socks aren’t visible from anything but close quarters.

FYI–we don’t make any money off the BA jerseys. We sell them at cost. Even though they are a little pricier than some of the low end generic jerseys you can find, they are high performance.
Coincidentally, they’re the same type of jerseys that the Trek Mountain Biking team used to use a couple years ago. Funny how things like that work out.

ParticipantI’m definitely in for whatever, kit, jersey, etc.

ParticipantI like the idea but I will echo the comments of vvill; the price of the BA jersey was too high.
The other thing is… as much as I drool over jerseys, I only wear one color: dayglo yellow.
How starting someplace small: a Bike Arlington bike bumper sticker. Or a patch that can be attached to a pannier?

ParticipantI wanted to get a BA jersey but they are simply too long for a shortie like me. You may wish to consider ordering petites in the future.
I’d like a way to easily identify BA forum members on the trail but can’t think of anything offhand that would be inexpensive and accomodate all types of bikes and riding styles.

Interesting on the fit issue. I haven’t heard the “too short” problem with them. We have them in XS-XXL for women–what size were you trying on? Is there another brand you prefer?
Obvious the cut is different for men than women, but I’m pretty tall and wouldn’t mind them being a little longer!
