I’m considering a job southeast of McLean Metro at a company whose name also begins with M (across 495 from Tyson’s Corner). Does anyone have hints or feedback about biking in the area, especially in regards to housing? By experience, I can say that 5 mile commutes work for me and 20 miles (40 mi rt) doesn’t, and so 10 miles is probably my upper limit. It looks like my best first bet is to look north and south along the W&OD? It looks like the company is about 3 miles off the trail coming from either direction.

I have, you know, secondary considerations (a budget, two kids, dogs, a tuba) that may or may not inform the discussion.

There are a lot of reasonably priced houses as you go south on Gallows road, although the development around Dunn Lorring station probably has increased prices since the last time I looked. There are also a lot of apartments/condos further south in Mosaic (the area at Gallows/Lee Hwy) and around the metro station. All a very easy ride to Tysons, with equally easy access to the W&OD and the Orange Line.

I live close to the Dunn Loring metro. There are a TON of new housing complexes (mostly rental) but it’s not cheap. It might have been a few years ago, but not now.
