I’ll put the bar end adapter on my list of things to go over with the shop.

Heading to Spokes in Alexandria to pick it up now. So excited!! :)

I have a Specialized with the stock bar ends. They’re not exactly what I would have picked, but they’re fine. The grips are Ergon-style, and are pretty comfortable. And since it has bar ends now, I don’t have to worry about adapters when I replace them.

Trek’s Isozone bar won’t allow you to just slap on any old bar ends because the handlebar isn’t round on the ends. The bar is kind of “V” shaped where the grips are to allow for the Isozone padding underneath. The adapter is fitted into this bar giving you that extra rounded space to get some bar ends on there.

You can see the white padding under the grips in this shot.

There are clearly people much smarter than I working on ways to add incompatibilities to simple systems.

It’s a pretty astonishing design choice, given that a lot of people, myself included, like putting on bar ends.

well, since they get an extra $10/bike it’s less astonishing than ballsy

Agreed. A bit of a pain in the bum.

I don’t think resale depends all that much on bike brand. Perhaps a name-brand bike will be more attractive to less-informed buyers. I think you can expect to get roughly half what you paid for a recent-year, lightly used bike regardless of brand. Obviously there will be some exceptions, but bicycles don’t resell well, for good reason IMO as the wear items (like drivetrain) can be a significant portion of the bike value — especially at this price point.
