ParticipantI’m not sure if I ever stop eating during the day – it is more of a grazing affair with random bursts of heavy grazing. But I never eat before getting on my bike in the morning, it helps to keep my voice scratchy and weird – THOU SHALT NOT PASS.

ParticipantI just eat whenever I feel hungry. Also, whenever I feel bored. Or when something looks tasty.

ParticipantMy commute is not long or strenuous (8 miles downhill on the way in) so I’ve never had a problem eating after I get to work, shower, etc. I also think your body gets used to whatever you do. I found I don’t get hungry until my usual time to eat. However, once I get hungry, nobody better get in between me and my breakfast!

ParticipantThere’s no place to eat breakfast at work (isolated campus in Reston) and I crave more than just a bar and a banana, so I eat at home. I’m usually doing this 5 minutes before I leave, so I’ve got some heavy foot sitting in the bottom of my stomach, which isn’t conducive to a brisk ride.

Yeah if your not near one of the “centers” there really isn’t anywhere to eat with out driving.

Tell me about it. My company had the world’s worst cafeteria, which unfortunately closed in December with vague plans to replace it. (What’s the old joke about the food is horrible and the portions too small.) The food was lousy, but I’m not organized enough to pack a lunch, so I ate there anyway. Now, I can beg a friend to go out to lunch or walk a mile each way to the Harris Teeter shopping center. My building recently added an honor-system self-checkout refrigerator with frozen meals, premade sandwiches, etc., but it’s lousy and yucky.

If you’re looking for ways to suggestions on taking food into work, I’m sure we can help you out. For example, you can throw oatmeal and hot water in a (tightly closed) container, throw that in your pannier, and it will be ready when you get to work. You can make a set of mason jar salads on Sunday, and grab them as you set out in the morning. If you have a fridge and/or microwave at work, there are lots of options. Having breakfast/lunch basically made might be a step towards bike every day, if that’s your goal.

Participantoutlier here: I only eat dinner. srsly.
context: i used to weigh 250lbs and I’ve been at 165-170 for the last ten years keeping my calorie intake to one meal @ ~1200-1500 calories.

I carry my breakfast and lunch with me each day…milk, juice, oatmeal with fixings, fruit, and whatever I decide to eat for lunch. Problem solved.

Wow, I would pass out from hunger at some point during the day. You have amazing self control!

ParticipantI save space in my pockets by eating my breakfast before leaving the house in the am. No sense in making my body wait for what it is going to get anyway.

ParticipantI’m a dining nightmare. I eat 6 or 7 meals per day. Usually one of those meals is what a human would recognize as a meal. Breakfast usually comes at 4:30, 6 and 9:30am. Lunch is at 11am and 2pm. Dinner is at 5 and 7:30. I try to stop eating at that point. If I’m working late, last dinner will be at 9:30.

Breakfast, Second Breakfast, Elevensies, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Dinner, Supper.
It’s the only way to be.

I was just going to say this – there’s no Second Breakfast option in the poll.
Seriously, I usually eat a small breakfast before riding that gives me some energy and satisfies hunger but isn’t big enough to bother me while riding. Then I eat a little more when I get to work.
