Umm, don’t melt your wheels?

ParticipantHave you looked at Flo?
Their wheels are not very light, but they make a strong case for their aerodynamics.

Or buy those November Rails on the FB group… They have 350-degree braking surfaces. Though I can’t blame you for wanting alloy braking; carbon braking sucks. “Upgrade” to disc brakes? j/k
Other alloy-braking options:
– Shimano C50 (at least previous model years? current may be carbon?)
– Older Zipp 404 etc. or Zipp 60? http://www.competitivecyclist.com/zipp-60
– Sram S60 (S40? S80?) etc. I think there’s a set for sale on the FB group too … (I am guessing Sram S60 = Zipp 60)The new Easton wheels claim to have really good braking (carbon, but they claim it’s as good as alloy).
But Hed is a great option too.

ParticipantDid the November wheels not work out?
Have you looked at FLO?
http://www.flocycling.com/store/index.phpThe Stealth Pink FLO 90 would look pretty good on your Felt.

ParticipantThe November 85s were good, but weren’t meant to handle my weight + descending/braking on the hills of Western Maryland:

As good as the Rails are at throwing off heat, I want better braking power. Carbon braking was just too sketchy sometimes, so that’s why I’m looking at aluminum again…

I can see why. I’d be scared if my wheels looked like that.

ParticipantThe only problem with Flo is no powertap support for their wheels (http://www.flocycling.com/faq.php) — and you can’t buy their rims (other than the Flo30) due to the fairings being designed specifically for their hubs (spoke angle) etc.
What about selling that powertap and getting a Stages (or similar)? Then you can also swap your wheels out w/o worrying about losing power data.

This is Tim Kelley we are talking about! He melts everything he touches. Particularly our hearts!

I think Tim has essentially laid down a challenge. Okay, forum. It’s Friday…. well, no, but its close enough. Let’s give Tim some advice:
* Go slower
* Dont bother braking’
* Take your brakes off your bike
* Disc brakes
* Lose weight
* Carry a spray bottle of liquid nitrogen
* Bike only in Alaska
* This:

I’ve thought about going to Stages, but I know and like the Powertap system. I know what to expect. And I have three of them on three bikes so the general numbers are pretty even across the board. (I’d hate to have to mental make a 5% different in pacing depending on which bike I’m riding at the moment)

ParticipantWhat pads were you running? There’s a HUGE difference between SwissStop Yellow Kings and the Black Prince in terms of power and modulation. IMHO the Black Prince pads are damn close to shimano pads on alu rims, but with better modulation. Not nearly as grabby.
