I’m sure those cables with provide outstanding structural integrity for that downtube. Wonder where this was left parked that the tube was cut?

Nah, it’s a performance feature. Increases vertical compliance…although, admittedly, at the expense of lateral rigidity.

That there is that new “Transparent Aluminum” they’ve been talking about lately.

Points if you get the ref :D

That’s actually a weight weenie trying to shave off 2 grams. I would have removed the brake extenders first, but hey, it ain’t my bike.

that one brings back an old flashback.
I know this works as I did just this about 20 years ago for someone.
Snag a broomstick from the janitors closet, a roll of strapping tape from the shipping department. Cut a stub from the broom using the saw on a swiss army knife, wittle stub a bit with knive and smooth by sanding stub to a tight force fit using the sidewalk. (this is hard on your finngers and knuckels) Hammer stub into head tube side then in the rest of the down tube using a rock. Tightly wrap the whole mess with strapping tape.

Was suprised when she showed up the next day on the same bike.

unless my eyes deceive me, the cables are intact–which suggests that they’re riding it this way. that terrifies me, as the failure mode probably involves a new face.

note: this is why you should avoid getting a lock whose scrap value exceeds the value of the bike. :-)

… And the quick release is not engaged.

Has anyone told her it’s a problem? She might not know she’s risking her life!
