I end up at independence and 2nd St SE, but I ride penn ave bike lanes in the morning, then into the capital complex. you can take the protected climb up the then cross the street at Constitution and 1st to get to the Hart Building, or wherever you may be headed.

You could ride up and down the MBT… it isn’t pretty, it isn’t exciting, but it is easy.

I’m over at the Hart building a fair amount. The barriers and persnickety guards make northbound 1st quite annoying (either turning from Constitution or continuing on 1st past SCOTUS). You end up having to hop up on/off the sidewalk, which can be quite crowded. Otherwise it’s an easy area to navigate. There’s ample short-term bike parking outdoors at C & 1st that I use for meetings. I imagine there are long-term covered options available to staffers. Or there’s the Union Station parking someone mentioned.

In terms of nice quick loops from there, I like to do something like this loop for a really quick ride. You could also jump out earlier on one of the bridges across the ART if you wanted to cut it short. Or add a detour over to Haines Point to add some laps.

Thanks all. Somehow, I didn’t see all of the awesome replies til now…

Anywho… I’ll be on detail to Senate Banking, which may have some similarities to Corrections, but is in the Dirksen building.

I assume I’ll be able to find the gym ok? Are there lockers for overnight storage? Do people who share offices leave things at their desk? Any of you out there Senate staffers who bike commute or have friends in that category?

Crowded bike rack northwest corner. Very close to police checkpoint so probably safe if you’re early enough to get a spot. Don’t park the bakfiets with cargo hold covered. Given enough time they will figure out how to tow it away. Haha. Actually anything parked on the other side of 2nd generally goes unnoticed. Nice rack at FCNL for normal sized bikes. I sometimes park my big rig in front of the home for unwed mothers.
