I wonder if we shouldn’t do more to explain Strava privacy settings to newbies to FS, who are often newbies to Strava. I just changed mine, after QOTM read an article about people having their bikes stolen because someone stalked them on Strava. I told QOTM that my bike was probably not on the target list (I love it, but still) but decided to change settings anyway to avoid the annoying spammers. As Subby said, this is a bad situation.
Well, we do allow people to make their rides private, but still have them count for Freezing Saddles. But in this case, the problem appears to have been bigger than that. She has my utmost sympathy.

ParticipantI think it would be reasonable to sub in a player with about her mileage, perhaps from the Friends of BAFS, so the overall standings are fair.
And yes, it’s disgusting that she has to deal with this. I’ve noticed in the last few days I’m occasionally getting porn spammers giving me kudos. I guess eventually all the worst parts about social networks get to every social network.
Anyway, if she gets to a place where she’s comfortable dealing with this as it pertains to BAFS, put her in touch with me and we can maybe work something out so she shows up but isn’t at risk.

ParticipantMove the 12th person from cincodevelo? A simple no will suffice, no need to attack.

ParticipantHannah is back! I am mostly just relieved for her, but this does also solve Folie a Deux’s issue.

ParticipantCan someone PM/email me this rider’s name? We might still have the acticities in the database.

It looks like our posts crossed. She’s back now, so the problem is solved.

I just started getting those porn spammers giving me kudo’s, too. Dang, I just thought she liked me!! It must be something new. But the good thing is that they aren’t real people that you need to worry about, unlike the other type of people who are real and like to stalk/harass people. I’ve had a few friends on Strava that have had this problem. It sucks to be a woman on social media!!

ParticipantSorry, I hadn’t read the last post. Glad this is sorted!

ParticipantI got two follow requests from women who didn’t seem to be bikers shortly after I joined Strava. Much more pouty lip than helmet hair.

Pouty lips should not and do not disqualify one from being a cyclist.

ParticipantGood that Hannah is back on Strava and doing okay. Hope the stalking is fully behind her soon.
I’m intimately familiar with stalking. It can be spooky. In my case the police and FBI got involved.
On Strava I have dozens of follow-requests that I’ve not replied to. (I’m sorry if that includes any of you…it’s nothing personal). But I’m happy to add once I get to know people.

ParticipantI knew there was no way I was going to get my point across in anything less than a full essay with footnotes.

Believe me, I understand. I constantly get Facebook friend requests from strangers whose profile pictures show them as good looking men in military uniforms. Now, I have nothing against good looking men in military uniforms. (Although if they actually read my profile and figured out I was married to another woman, they might pretend to be good looking women, with or without military uniforms.) But this has happened so many times, I tend to assume strangers who look like this and try to friend me are scammers.
And I suspect something similar is going on with the pouty female cyclists. Yes, female cyclists can be pouty in their daily lives. But the real ones are more likely to use a photo of themselves cycling than a photo of themselves pouting at the camera. So if you get a bunch of followers with no friends in common, whose photos show them as pouty, you are on safe ground assuming that most or all of them are scammers.
