I’m hoping the major weather websites (weather.com, accuweather, wtop) are right and DC/ArlCo will just get a few showers and some wind. It was too warm to wear any sort of rain gear, so it’s a “I’ll just get wet” day for me…

Most of the weather sites also have the T-storms rain starting in force at 6pm or later. Good excuse to head out of the office a bit on the early side.

In the D.C. area, the main risk will be gusty winds with the squall line, with a good chance of gusts from 35-50 mph, and possibly isolated gusts to 60 mph.

    I hope it’s all tailwinds!

CWG reckons as early as 3pm.

    Seems legit.

CWG sez: “Our revised time window for the worst conditions is 3-7 p.m.”

I do not approve this revision.

Yeah I would either leave in 30-60 mins or wait out the worst part of it. I have my rain jacket so I’m planning to do the latter.

Thought about putting my rear fender on this morning. Wish I had now!

Going across the 14th Street bridge to Virginia will be fun!

Earliest I can do is 3:30 – looks like I’m going to be getting a little wet.

The WunderMap shows the front edge of the storm has passed through Winchester. It’s probably right on schedule to get to Rosslyn just before I decide to pull out of our parking garage.

I do have my Crudracer fenders on the road bike (put them on in late December and will probably leave them on until after the VASA Ride in mid-March) and brought in a rain jacket and rain cape. If we are getting the forecast winds, I’ll skip the cape unless the winds are just right as a tail wind. ;)

I’m a total hater when it comes to the local weather forecasters. They originally said today had an 80% chance of rain. I see the storm coming, but I don’t think it’s going to hit us the way some think. If I’m wrong, I’ll get really wet when I leave at 4.15 today.

I’m thinking the squall line out there now will likely miss us or at the most clip northern DC. It’s moving east pretty fast, but it’s moving north even faster.

If we get anything severe later that hasn’t even developed yet, which makes the forecast for 3-6 hours from now really tricky. We’ll get a lot of rain, when the bulk of the front slides over us but will there be a severe squall line out ahead of it is the question. Good news is that these squall lines should move through fast and be over in 15 minutes.

Southerly winds today will be strong whether accompanied by thunderstorms, heavy rain or sun.

For those of us travelling south, the headwind is going to be 20+ mph. Won’t be a lot of fun, but I am looking forward to it. It’s not just a bike commute; it’s an adventure.
