    Back in 1900 Alaska, there was a different bar for HTFU – I think that had he deliberately plowed into the soft pelt of a passing grizzly bear then that would have been HTFU-worthy. I suspect that the measure of HTFU back in 1900 and today, 2013, has roughly followed inflation. What today is HTFU-worthy, back then was something a 10 year old kid could pull off.

    My wife and I got a good deal of Klondike history on our honeymoon in Alaska. I don’t think I’ve ever felt like more of a wuss than when hearing about the crazy stuff they went through…and something like 80% of the prospectors never even found gold!
