I took a spill on a rainy day on H St a few years ago fully aware of the tracks and the increased risk of falling. I was even trying to be as careful as possible, but still went down. They certainly can be a hazard for cyclists…

H-Street has signs warning cyclists. They also installed counterflow lanes on G and I streets to make it easier to ride one block on either side of H.

Still gotta be careful, but they’re trying to make things work a little more smoothly.

Having enjoyed a trip to the hospital after interacting with a rail track embedded in cobblestones ( best of both worlds ) I’d suggest a small signage add after seeing Dirt’s most ambassador-ish post. Having biked around and along H St NE a number of times I’m still surprised learning of the contraflow lanes a block away. Appending a sign about those lanes to the caution signs might save some pain and suffering or at least some embarrassment going forward.

I agree. I figure they could use the green “Bike Route” signs with something saying “G/I Street” to help guide cyclists to those streets.
