You start on a bicycle, but only make it back with one wheel. And the tire is flat.

One of my fears is the Washington Post and the New York Times will merge, leaving only one truly good daily newspaper in the U.S. They are already using the same delivery person in my area. Your title and link have me concerned.

More like you start out on a bicycle, but only make it home with a flat tire and a broken chain. At home, you find a Russian, an Austrian, and a German sitting on your couch, demanding you cook them a nice meal and that you move out of your house.
