I’m guessing that Alta and College Park will eventually go with the new scheme, of an Alta/8D system, instead of the old Alta/Bixi system.

8D provided the software for CaBi and other older bikeshare systems. When Bixi and 8D parted ways (after 8D refused to let Bixi buy them out), Bixi went with a new software provider. That has become a major headache for them, as the bugs in the software caused problems in newer systems like those in NYC and Chicago. Those cities have withheld payments to Bixi, leading to the cash flow problems for Bixi.

After Bixi filed for bankruptcy, Alta and 8D announced a new partnership for new systems and expansion of existing bikeshare systems. The new operation will include improved stations and better software than what Bixi is currently selling. Alta and 8D announced that they would get started with the new systems by this summer (I think). I assumed that meant that College Park and the Alexandria expansion into Del Ray/Carlyle would be delayed until summer, although I haven’t read any official statements until now.

Officially, as of this morning Alexandria is still saying this spring.
