And I’m sure you all know the best Social Ride in the area: KIDICAL MASS (we’re combining forces and going jurisdiction-less on this)

I said “ArlCo trails” and reason said because ArlCo is plowing them!

I was planning on nominating ArlCo plowing as “Biggest Advocacy Win of 2014” — if you remember, there was a WABA email campaign + speakers at the County Board, combined with sustained pressure at ABAC last winter, to make the plowing happen this year. It’s a 180 turn around, and it’s awesome.

Nominations are in, and it’s time to VOTE! Also, there will be a party (and WABA’s annual meeting) to announce the winners on February 20, 2015 (next Friday). This page has links to both vote and rsvp.

    Relevant highlights for this group:
Java Shack and Swings, which both host Friday Coffee Clubs, are both nominated for Bike Friendliest Bar, Restaurant or Coffee Shop
Kidical Mass is nominated for Best Social Ride
Freezing Saddles is nominted for Best Use of Biking Data
Snow Removal on Arlington County trails is nominated for Biggest Advocacy Win of 2014

There are lots of other great things to vote for. (But you know you want to vote for Kidical Mass!)

I don’t think there is an “s” in Potomac Yard. Besides that, does Potomac Yard cover the general area of the new development, the Potomac Yard Park or something else? The shopping center is quite apathetic about cycling, from what I’ve seen. They don’t reply to emails about adding bikeshare stations there, although the new bike path along Potomac Ave. is a good addition.

Thanks for the link! It’s nice to be able to look back at all the accomplishments from 2014.

There were more than a few of these that made me want an “all of the above” button.

Freezing Saddles won the Best Use of Biking Data award! Congrats to me! And in a more meaningful sense, to hozn, who has done way more work than I have.

Nice work guys! I also hope the Arlington board notices that the county’s efforts to clear snow off the trails won too!

Yeah, I just heard this on the twitter. That is awesome. Thank you all for making the stats, photos, and competition ranking lines so damn impressive!

I look forward to having more time to implement other ideas for next winter. (I am glad spring is almost here. Right? Right!?)

Yes. Walter Tejada was there to accept it. I thanked him for the support and made a point about the potential budget cuts. dasgeh also hit him up.

I had forgotten about this, ’til seeing the tweets tonight. As much as I’m familiar with the recipients, I’d say all the awards are well deserved.

But as a statewide org leader I’d like to extend special thanks and congrats to Jim Durham, and the Alexandria BPAC. The King St. bike lanes were the strongest advocacy effort I’ve seen in VA since I started with VBF in 2006. And personally, I’m looking forward to climbing that hill again without getting buzzed!
