If you’re interested in becoming an LCI, you also don’t have to take the training through WABA. There are trainings all over the nation. The advantage of taking the class through WABA is that WABA will pay for the cost of the training on your behalf (with the expectation that you will commit to teaching for WABA).

For information about becoming an LCI from the League of American Bicyclists you can check this site: http://bikeleague.org/content/become-instructor

But note there are not *that* many trainings, and trainings are a multi-day affair. WABA is the only host in the DC area this year. So unless you’re willing to travel on a very specific schedule, a substitute training is hard to come by.

It’s definitely a time commitment. Entire Friday afternoon, morning to bedtime on Saturday and then close to a full work day on Sunday. For me, it’s a great excuse to travel, I’ve got work leave to use and there’s plenty of seminars that are close enough that they can be reached within a day’s travel. I’m taking the training in Williamsburg. If I were going some place further away, I’d probably use it as an excuse to roll the training into a vacation.

Komorebi and I successfully completed LCI training this past weekend in Williamsburg. Maddie from Phoenix Bikes was in our class too.

I’m glad to have earned the certification, although I don’t have specific plans on what I’ll do with it, other than helping Steve O host a Guinness World Record event for teaching the most people how to ride a bike on a single day.
