I had a really great time riding with folks during last year’s Cider Ride, so I know y’all will have fun this year.

For a preview of what’s in store for you, here’s my video of last year’s ride:

This was my introduction to the Freezing Saddles group!

You let me tag along on the ride and then got me hooked.

Somehow, I managed to talk my wife into the McIntosh route (really, once you adjust for the ride to and from the start given where we live, it’s just as long as the DC Bike Ride was for us but without the hurry up and wait at the start…and she’s done so much more biking since then!), so assuming she doesn’t change her mind because of the weather/cold, the three of us (I’ll have our 6yo on the trailer cycle per usual) will be on the shorter route taking our time… :)

On 50 States, it was more like, “Here’s Kitty with 8 people that she knows.”

It’s more that marshals (for very good reason) generally ride at a pace that is well below my sort-of natural rhythm, which just ends up feeling frustrating for me.

I’ll have to think about riding with a marshal, as I generally avoid that on these types of rides. I’m not a very patient or take-it-slow-and-chill type of rider.

Try it on your mountain bike. That will slow you down, plus big fun curb hopping along the way. Or on tandem (curb hopping not necessarily recommended). :)

If anyone is interested in extending the Cider Ride, or perhaps having a date afternoon and/or night with a significant other, perhaps consider this thread:
A Capella Magic Singing Capital Chorus And Extended Cider Ride
I think closebr even proposed an excellent route from Cider Ride finish line to the theatre.

Now I must mention – you don’t want to burn in a special level of hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theatre (reference).

I think that might have been me in the background doing my marshal bit helping the guy with the flat tire.

I’ll be there, riding the Honeycrisp route. I’ll plan to show up and ride whenever Kitty or Steve O’s marshaling start time is.

If anyone wants to ride over from Virginia to the start together let me know–I come from Alexandria.

I’ll be riding over, but won’t know when I need to be at the start until after the marshal’s mandatory briefing on 11/1

This is a new ride for me. I’m registered for the 52mi route and will try to start on the earlier end (around 0830). Always glad to have company.

There’s the slight complication that I’ve somehow wound up w/ tickets to see George Clinton the previous night. But, I’ll put a glide in my stride, a dip in my hip, and totally be there at 0830, for sure.

Sure enough, I AM marshaling this weekend, and I’m doing the Honeycrisp. What I don’t yet know is my start time–or if they are even assigning start times. In any event I have volunteered to roll early since I need to leave for home no later than 3pm (and want to enjoy some of the after-party).

As soon as I know my departure time, I’ll post it here.

Oh hey, that’s me! :D This ride is now the official start of my Birthday Week celebrations, so I will be looking to ride with another party hat.

It caps off my birthday week celebration. Anyone up for a Day of the Dead (11/2) W&OD century? We roll at 8 am from Best Buns in Shirlington.

O the way back from the Cider Ride, we should stop at the Spy Museum for the Parade of Trabants which goes until 4 pm. I’ve seen a few in Germany.

Ok, Steve and I got our marshal instructions. There are no set time for marshals other than the lead and sweep and we are allowed to ride with other marshals. So, I plan to get to the start by 8:15 to 8:25. Who is interested in a group ride over the river and through the woods (but NOT from Germany)?

Alrighty! Given my afternoon commitments, its my goal to roll out as close to 8:30 as possible. So if that means rolling with you Steve-o, that’s fine.

If not, it sounds like we’ll be close enough our groups will converge. Well, except for our difference in opinion on dropping our charges at lights thing… ;)

I’m planning to roll with some of you all at 8:30 ish. I may only ride with you to Proteus and then do the shorter (29 mi) route. Depends on how I feel. Anyone else here planning to do 29 mi. McIntosh route?
